[Facts] can the japanese name akira be a filipino name too?
i know akira is a japanese given name but looking up on wikipedia said the region of origin was japanese, scottish, and nigerian. both the japanese and nigerian version is a unisen name while the scottish version is female. so does that mean it's not only a japanese given name anymore?Joe:)

Quite unlikely. Akira must sound strange for Filipino ears accustomed to Spanish and English names. Japan, until today, is not your average Filipino's favourite country, going back to WW II.And finally, Google searches for "si Akira", "ni Akira" and "kay Akira" (*including* quotes) do not turn up real hits. They should if Akira was used in the Philippines.

But the Scottish and Nigerian Akira are different names altogether. Did you actually come across a Philipino person named Akira? Most Philipinos have Spanish or English names, though some have names of indigenous derivation. I've never heard of Akira as a Philipino name, though.
