[Opinions] Frank
Last night I caught part of a TV show about a woman in her 50s who gave birth to a boy. The parents called him Frank. I thought it was an unusual name to see on a child in this day and age. WDYT?

I like Frank. It's, um, frank, and friendly and simple, and there are umpteen good namesakes from Frank Capra to Frank Black, or St. Francis if saints are more your thing. I think it's fine alone or as a nn for Francis, Franklin etc, and I can see it fitting into the trend for old names. I just hope that if it gets into the UK charts it doesn't turn into Frankie, because yuck.

Among my friends, a Frankie is a singer, usually male, who sings like most Frank/Frankie singers: Sinatra, Vallee, Avalon ... yeah, it is toe-curlingly awful.

I don't like Francis much for a boy, though I do enjoy Frances for a girl (or badger). Franklin, nn Frank, would be very good. But I haven't seen any kind of Frank for decades! Good for them. (Though women in their 50s should have counselling instead of babies.)

I really like Frank! Although I'd much prefer to see it as a nn. Pretty neat that someone used it, though.

i just think it's funny to think of a baby who is just Frank. works well on a man though.

I'm a fan of Frank. It's solid and deadpan to the point where it seems more quirky to me than it actually is. Frank. I like it very much. One of my favorite combos is Frank Jerome. Jerome's popularity peaked in the 1930's, which seems appropriate for its feel.

Oh, I like Frank. It makes me think of Ireland in the 1920's, during the Revolution / Civil War. I can picture a young freedom fighter with this name.Odd, I know.

That's funny. I am Irish and to me it makes me think of France. Probably because I have met a few French Franks/Francks and it was their full name not a nn for François.

I was a little scared to read your response. I'm glad you agree about the feeling / image of Frank. :-)Thinking about it more, I wonder if I'm drawing on Frank O'Connor and his wonderful short stories about that time.
