[Facts] "WENDY"
This name existed before the commonly cited Peter Pan reference. There was a "Doctor Wendy" who cared for both Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth (also their brother Edward and perhaps father Henry VIII). Although this is a last name in this case, it certainly points to the existance of the name prior to the Peter Pan Story. As one wo is tired of being told my name was made up for a children's story, I'd love to see someone cite it for what it is.Thank you!Wendy

It also says here at Behind the Name, that Wendy could be a short form of Gwendolen.LaLa¤

Thanks...interesting. I am wondering what sort of last name Wendy would have been for a doctor. I must admit I was a little stunned to read about it!Oh well...The search goes on.

The English surname Wende means "dweller at the bend" from the Old English word 'wende'. This may be where the surname came from.Hope that this is of some use. :)
