The other day I made myself a little list of names I really like but always forget about, and
Basil was right at the top of the list. Man, I love
Basil. It is just so freaking debonair. And so rare. The only
Basil I ever knew was a border collie that belonged to my best friend.
I actually like
Basil because you don't really need to shorten it - it's like the names
Casper and
Jasper and
Simon, neat little packages of names, so tidy and complete.
Even though I would probably name a child
Basil in the hope that he would be gentle and poetic and scholarly and dashing, sadly I can also totally see a little terror named
Basil who never stops running amok and causing mayhem. That would be just my luck, to have a little
Basil like that. I think my previous association with the border collie
Basil may have given me that impression (he also never stopped runnig amok).
I like pairing
Basil with simlarily neat, concise British middle names, like:
Basil JamesBasil JohnBasil GeorgeBasil JackBasil Felix (although these names are both so tastefully unique I don't really like them both together... but brothers named
Basil and
Felix, now we are talking)
