Amelia is dull.
Amelia is dull.
Alice by all means. I've always felt Amelia was a bit overrated, I find it slightly dowdy.
Alice
They are both beautiful names but I prefer Alice because it's underused. Amelia is so popular lately.

I love Amelia. Too me it's just so feminine and pretty. Alice has that too but I still hear it as 1950's old fashioned. And the connotations with Alice in Wonderland. These are my top two favorite A names. I'd love to name my first daughter Amelia, but my hubby vetoed it. We will be going with Alice instead :)
I'm not keen on the me-e-e sound in Amelia (and often in Megan): that whiney cry for attention puts me right off. I find Emily much more attractive and restrained, and yes, I know they aren't the same name, but they've been used interchangeably for centuries.
Alice is wonderful, cool, elegant, like ice tinkling in a tall glass. I've no idea if the latest Wonderland movie will do anything for its popularity, but nor do I care. Alice is the #1 heroine of English literature for all ages!

Should be only one. Naughty computer!
Alice!
It's charming and quaint without being as insufferable as Amelia is. Amelia whines.

Amelia gets my vote.
Alice is sweet and cute, but Amelia is prettier in my opinion. Even though I do like Alice, I can't help but think of an older woman when I hear it.

Amelia
I'm not a huge fan of Amelia but I think it's pleasant enough and has a nice, feminine sound without going overboard.
I'm sick to death of Alice. Who doesn't think they're being all alternative hipster and Victorian with Alice?

Mostly because Amelia is much more common. Alice is also simpler and has some sort of charm to it.

Alice is one of my favorite names. It sounds simple and sweet.
I don't like Amelia very much, especially the "uh MEEL yuh" pronunciation. So unattractive.

Alice
- cause Alice is spunky and sweet and just plain awesome
- cause the -meel sound in Amelia grates on my nerves
- cause I hate the potential nn Mia

it doesn't sound as silly...

I like them both. Amelia is so pretty and intelligent and likable! - but Alice has been my favourite for so long that it's just welded itself to the top spot, and cannot be dislodged. So Alice it is.
Amelia. I like the nn Millie. I never liked Alice.
I love both names, so I would say that it depens on how they sound with the surname, siblings etc.
Jeez, all the Amelia hate. I prefer Amelia, though I do like Alice as well. I think it's timeless and I love the association with Amelia Earhart. I think it sounds like it would belong to a genuine, sweet girl with lots of determination and strength. And I love feminine names that have a little backbone to 'em. I think Alice's popularity is bound to increase at least a little due to pop culture's renewed interest in Alice in Wonderland.

Alice
I think it's a nicer name overall. Additionally, it's my maternal grandmother's name, so that association/connection makes it mean much more to me.

Alice. Simple and timeless. I don't like the "meal" sound in Amelia.
Hey, hey now. Alice does have the word "lice" in it.
It doesn't sound like "lice" though; it sounds like "liss". That makes a difference. :-)
Alice
It's like a clean white sheet on a clothesline, flapping in the wind on a sunny day. And it has a great medieval feel too.

That's a tough one. I love Amelia, but it's getting mighty popular. By the time I get around to kids, it could be number one. But it just sounds so kind, warm and friendly, like a freshly-baked oatmeal cookie. It's like the name Claire, I can't imagine a mean Amelia. Amelia Claire would actually be a real nice combo. So simple and sweet, like pale blue gingham.
Alice is great too. I love it's cool wedgewood-blue intelligence and poise. I love all the literary ties to it. It reminds me of writing desk made of dark wood and black pots of ink and silver tea trays laden with finger sandwiches.
I think I like Amelia best, in the end. I'm a sucker for a nice-person name.
