I love it too. I intended to call my Josephine 'Joey' but it just didn't fit her.

Charlie, Sam, Nick, Alex are used as female nns, so I guess you could pull Joey off as well.

One of those horrible little girls in the third grade who pretends to be your friend so she can do passive-aggressive cruel things to you and makes you cry like every day. The memories!

consequently I cringe at the name Joey. If it makes you feel any better I also cringe at the names Megan, Sheena and Jessica for the same reasons. So it's really not Joey-the-name's fault at all. If I met a sweet Joey, I might be converted.

But on a happier note I think you are right, we are well past the "Joey Potter" era, since I do not know who that is. Blossoms's brother? That's the second Joey thing I think of. Blossom's borderline mentally challenged brother, who cheats by hiding test answers in his head.

I prefer Jo, but I think it's fine as a nickname for Josephine, Joanna, or other feminine Jo- names.

I like it on a tomboy Josephine, but my favourite nick at the moment is Posy

I like it more for a girl than a boy.

Very cute actually. I also dislike it on a boy.

As a nickname in childhood, I guess it's all right. But on an adult it seems icky cutesy and as if the person was trying too hard to be youthful.

Actually I don't even like Joey on a boy/man, it seems like some Dennis the Menace Meets Eddie Haskell type of thing.

I have two friend with this nickname Joanna (Joei) & Jacinta (Joey)

My nephew is "Joey" so the thought of it on a girl is osbured to be. However, he was named after my grandma Joann "Jo", so I guess its not that weird. Ive known many girls named Jo, but not any Joeys. I prefer Josie for Josephine and Joanie for Joanna. Joseph is such a popular boys name (and always has been) that I think you will forever be correcting people with "No, Joey is a girl."

I was just about to tell you that I didn't like it, but you know what? That actually sounds kind of nice as a nickname. Go for it!

I actually did think immediately of Joey Potter. But isn't that a good thing in this case, since she was a girl?

I've never heard of Joey Potter! But I find Joey very wimpish on a male and unattractive on a female: Jo or Josie are fine, though.

There was a ghastly female sex abuser/murderer where I live, blonded woman with an equally nasty male partner: they died in a double suicide when the police were closing in. She was Joey. Maybe this memory is clouding my judgment.
