Year 1: 2010
We are newlyweds and have been doing pretty well. I work as a copy editor for the local paper and Jacob is a 10th grade biology teacher. Unfortuantely, the teachers went on strike this summer. They are fed up with the low pay. Luckily, negotiations started up right before school started so the teachers are making better money and Jacob still has his job.
Year 2: 2011
We decided to adopt a ball python. Her name is Priscilla. I made sure that she has a really good lock on the top of her terrerium because I've heard stories of them getting out and squeezing people to death.
Year 3: 2012
My car finally died this year. I have had it since high school and it was used then. We bought a brand new Jeep Navigator. Pretty big for just the two of us, but I wanted a family car just in case.
Year 4: 2013
Had our first child this year. Elizabeth Athena "Liza" was born on June 1st with curly blonde hair and blue eyes. She was about 2 months early. She wasn't due until August. She was touch and go for awhile, especially since she only weighed 3lbs 8 oz, but she came out of the NICU after 6 weeks and is happily at home.
Year 5: 2014
We adopted a dog. A Dachsund/Chihuahua mix we name Hot Dog. She's about a year old, so she can grow up with Liza. Hot Dog and Liza love each other.
Year 6: 2015
Another daughter born this year! Paris Mirabella arrived on Dec 31st. A New Year's Eve baby! She has straight blonde hair and blue eyes. There was almost a mix up at the hospital. Apparently, there was another baby named Paris born the day before ours. They brought her to us, but the fact that she had jet black hair gave away that she wasn't ours. The nurse apologized profusely. Liza loves being a big sister.
Year 7: 2016
We are temporarily moving out of house and renting a house not to far from where we are. We are renovating our house. It's getting a little too small for us and we're expecting again. We don't want to move so we're finishing the basement and making it have 2 rooms and a playroom.
Year 8: 2017
Identical twins! Tia Cat and Taylor Ellen were born on March 14th. They both have curly brown hair and brown eyes. I had to have an emergency c-section as Tia's sack broke and she was in distress. They are doing great. Jacob is worried he'll never get a son, but he loves all of his daughters.
Year 9: 2018
Finally, a son! Jacob was ecstatic to announce the birth of River Anson, born February 5th with curly brown hair and blue eyes. Unfortunately, Jacob missed the birth. He was out of town judging the state science fair and I went into labor a few days early. He, of course, was very disappointed that he missed the birth of our son. The girls are thrilled to finally have a little brother.
Year 10: 2019
My closest friend at work, Reenie, and her husband Dave just had their first child! They want Jacob and I to be the godparents. Of course we accepted. They are actually River's godparents. So we now have a godsone, Adam Lowell Jessup.
Year 11: 2020
We adopted another ball python for Priscilla. She now has a mate named, of course, Elvis.
Year 12: 2021
We invited my boss to dinner. I've been a copy editor for years now, and although I'm now a managing copy editor, I really want to write in the food section. So, we invited him over and I cooked him mushroom risotto, roasted spring vegetables and made a chocolate souffle. He loved it and I'm now writing for the food section of the paper.
Year 13: 2022
I went to my first Culinary convention to cover for the paper. It was in San Francisco, which is across the country from Massachusetts, where we are. It was great. I did miss Jacob and the kids, but I loved getting to eat great food on the companies dime.
Year 14: 2023
Liza is now 10 and has started taking flute and piano lessons. She is actually quite good on both. Paris is 8 and started taking dance lessons this year. We put her in ballet, even though she wants to do tap. I want her to learn the basics first. Tia and Taylor are now 6 and I've enrolled them in swim lessons. River is 5 and he is also taking swim lessons with the twins. We have a very busy schedule.
Year 15: 2024
Jacob's school went on strike, again. It's a little harder this time since we have kids to think about. The district even threatened to hire replacements and not get the teachers on payroll for the school year. Luckily, things got negotiated and he is back teaching. It's not the amount they hoped for, but every little bit helps.
