[Opinions] Riordan
I know it's supposed to be pronounced REER-den. Can it be pronounced ROAR-den? If pronounced REER-den, is Rory an acceptable nickname?

ive always pronounce it reer-dan or ree-or-dan, but the database says RÓRDÁN is the original, so i guess Rory could fit. however, if youre in doubt, Rory itself is a fine name and definitely doesnt need the embellishment

This use to be one of my favourite names. I pronounced (and still do) Ri-or-dan. As it's written. I think when you call your child a name you have some say over pronunciation!

I reminds me of rivers you know, the Rio Grande and the Jordan.

I do not think it can be pronounced as ROAR-den. BUT I do think that Rory can be a nick name for Riordan!

I think it's fine. Most people don't know it's supposed to be pronounced REER-dan anyway.(is it?) :) Rory's a cute nickname.

I pronounce it as ROAR-den, even though I know that it is REER-den...in my mind, Reardan is pronounced like the latter and Riordan like the former. I think Rory would be an acceptable nickname.

I'm not sure... I used to think it was REE-or-den, and then I heard someone say ROAR-den, so I thought that was the 'correct' way. I haven't heard REER-den. I don't think Rory would make as much sense with REER-den as it would with ROAR-den, but I guess it could work, since it's a nicname. It's closer than Peggy/Margaret at any rate :P
