[Opinions] Opinions on Maxine
What do you think of the name Maxine, possibly nickname Max, which i think is adorable for a girl. Do you think Maxine is too dated, or would it be refreshing?

I know a 20-year-old one: is that young enough? I think it's rather pretty, as fem versions of male names go.

I don't think it's a bad name, but I'm not personally attracted to the "Max" sound.

I love Maxine. I find it refreshing. I dislike the nickname Max for a girl, though.(My paternal grandmother's name is Maxine. :) )

I like it. It's fun retro rather than dated, imo, and Max is cute. I know a Maxine Helen, which is not a bad combo.

I'm psychic. I was just thinking yesterday that I should suggest Maxine more. A very underrated gem.Unless we were watching the same movie on HBO. Annabelle Sciorra's (sp?) character. ETA -- The first image to come to mind for me is Patty, Maxine and Laverne, the Andrews Sisters. "Boogie, woogie, bugle boy of Company B," anyone? The only reason I stopped liking Maxine growing up was maxi-pad commercials. I would have loved the nn Maxi for a Maxine. But it's just unuseable. Nn Max is OK. I just prefer it for a boy so much more. Hmmm. I can't think of any other nns.

I think refreshing for sure. I've been seeing it pop up here and there - on an episode of House, on a newborn, and on an adorable little girl in that move Orphan - she was called Max too.I like Maxine, its got a strong, pushy, frazzled 1970's vibe which I think is pretty great.I'm not sure how I'd combo it though - Maxine Iris? Maxine Betsy? It's gotta have something just as unexpected in the middle I think.

I like Maxine, and I think Max is a fine NN for a little girl. No, I don't think it's dated. I never knew a Maxine, so I can't place a certain age to the name.

Dated and not a really great association because of this http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=maxine+cartoons&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi for a little girl.

Aw. The cartoon of the old lady adds to the charm of Maxine for me. I love seeing "old lady" names on little girls. It warms my heart. And the cartoon one is a hoot. She takes no guff from anyone. Then again, I'm biased, being an old lady myself.

"Old lady" names ARE quite fantabulous on little girls these days but Maxine, the name, is just ... well ... unappealing. And I highly doubt you're an "old" lady ;o)

I think it's a bit dated but it's nice. I slightly prefer Maxima nn Max though :)

Maxine is a tad dated, but that' why I like it. It's Depression Era chic for me.
