I also think of Hagar the Horrible, and Viking hammers connecting with lumpy heads! - but if I stop thinking of him and listen to the sound, it's actually not too bad at all. I just checked and it seems to have been reasonably well-used in Victorian England - lots of Hagar Elizas, Hagar Louisas and Hagar Anns. I think it could grow on me if I met one, but the cartoon has probably knocked that on the head with a big Viking hammer for a good while yet.
