[Opinions] Otto, Ottilie, and Ottoline
Otto quickly shot up into my boys top ten a few months ago and is making himself cozy among my other long-established favorites. Lately I've been fancying some of Otto's offshoots, too.Ottilie came to my attention first. It appears to be gaining a following in the UK, as it seems to show up at least once in each of the posted BAs (thanks Sofia!). I discovered Ottoline soon afterwards perusing the O names. So, out of curiosity:What do you think of Otto, Ottilie, and Ottoline? How would you pronounce Ottilie? It seems to vary among people, so I'm trying to get some kind of consensus.Would you give Ottoline the -leen or -line?

Ottilie is AH-tih-lee for me. Most three-syllable -ie names, like Natalie and Melanie, place their accents on the first syllable so that's why I prn it the way I do.Ottoline ends with -line, no -leen. I don't really like any of the names because all Ott- names make me think of otters and sound dated. Ottilie is probably the best of them, though.

I know an Otto and he is 40 something and a pain in the *** so I have a bad connection with that one.Ottilie and Ottoline are fine but I am not drawn to them Now Ottilia / Otylia .... I love! Your post reminded me of it and I wonder why more people don't mention it or use it.

I love Otto; it's one of my favorite boys' names.I like the German pronunciation of Ottilie, but the English pronunciation doesn't do a thing for me.Ottoline is interesting, but I don't care for it.

Dang...and I liked Otto.I pronounce Ottilie Oh-TILL-ee-ah. Ottoline is -line, rather than leen.I like all of them a lot - although I like Ottilie more than Ottoline.ETA: I'm from Midwest, USA, so my pronunciation may vary from others.

I've started liking Otto just a few months ago. I don't love it, but I think it's alright. Ottoline (I pronounce it with the -leen ending) has been growing on me lately. The first time I saw it I just thought it was a bad feminization of Otto.I like Ottilie (o-tee-lee), too, but it seems a little cutesy to me. I prefer Ottilia (o-TEE-lee-ah).

I dislike them all. Otto makesme think of a fat german guy even though I've never met one. I just dislike how Ottilie sounds and looks, I prefer Ottilia. I prn Ottilie something like o-TEE-lee and Ottoline with the -line ending.

I adore Otto.Ottilie (I would pronounce Ott-ah-lie) and Ottoline (I'd pronounce -line) seem kind of feminine to me. (Like Madeline)
