Caroline, who has gone by her middle name Emmanuelle since childhood, is not nearly as driven as her older sister. She is well-meaning but a bit clueless and vain, choosing not to go to university and instead spending her days shopping and nights partying, taking expensive trips across Europe with her friends. She sometimes partied a bit too hard and for a while, the French press had a field day commenting upon her multiple DUIs, wardrobe malfunctions, and general disheveled appearance after a long night of table-dancing. She also struggles with anorexia and bulimia. Within her party circle Emmanuelle meets a French musician--somewhat of a has-been, having achieved extreme fame at a very young age--and they hit it off. He makes it very clear that he loves her despite her demons and the relationship is a good influence on her: she enrolls in AA and NA, sees a therapist and a psychiatrist to manage her eating disorder, and is doing very well. When she accidentally becomes pregnant, Emmanuelle and her boyfriend decide right away to keep the pregnancy, much to the shock of those around her, who thought that they were making a rash decision, having not been together for very long. However, they grow even closer together after having their daughter, and 20 months later, their son is born. They marry when he is two years old and have been together ever since.
