[Opinions] Marnie
Anyone like Marnie? It always sounded made-up and nicknamey to me, but apparently it's neither. This site says it's a variant of Marna, which is itself a short form of Marina.I've known one Marnie. She was given the name because her mother's name was Marguerite and her father's name was Ernie, and they thought Marnie was a good way to combine elements of both of their names.I think it's kind of cute. I definitely would never use it, but I think it's rather cute and not at all common. What do you think of Marnie?

Ha how is it not nicknamey? It's clearly a nickname of Marna or Marina, and "short form" is the same thing as nickname.I think it's pretty cute, in a very crunchy kind of way. Nothing I'd use but I'd sort of like to have a friend named Marnie.

I don't like it. I think it sounds frumpy and dated.

I like it, because it reminds me of the Alfred Hitchcock movie.

Kinda like it... It's not a fave, but likable enough. I think I've known a total of 3... but 1's spelled Marnee.
Of course, for me, I think the positive 1st association w/ the name helps.

I agree with you, I wouldn't use it but I find it cute. I also like the Hebrew name Marni.

Oh, me me!Every time I mention it around here it doesn't get very good reviews.I've liked it ever since I read a book called Marnie in middle school (unrelated to the Alfred Hitchcock movie). I always thought it sounded nicknamey, too. I think it's cute and charmingly old-fashioned, but it has something dark and mystical about it, too. Which is odd because Mar- names are always red for me.

It's not one I'd use myself, but it's still a cute name.

I would think it was cute if....it didn't rhyme with Barney.

It's my aunt's name - she was given up for adoption when she was a few months old, and her adoptive parents renamed her Marnie (my grandma had named her Cynthia, originally). I'm not a big fan because I don't really like the "arn" sound in names.
