[Opinions] Rose.
I have suddenly fallen in love with the name Rose. My husband and I have been watching Doctor Who and hearing the name said so often has made me love it.
I'm not sure if I could use it - it's the middle name of my husband's grandmother, mother, sister and niece. Names do tend to be reused quite a lot in his family (I can't even keep track of all the times Christine has been used, or Jacob, or Christopher), however his sister tends to be a little bit on the sensitive side. I still might do it, though.
What do you think of the name? Is it too sweet? I'm not sure what I'd use as a middle name. Is Rosa better?
Some thoughts:
Rose Teresa - I love this quite a lot.
Rosa Magdalen
Rosa Magdalena / Rose Magdalena
Rose Susannah - after her grandmothers
Rosa Diane - again, after her grandmothers (My mom's middle name is Diane)
I'm really like Rose Teresa and Rosa Diane. Thanks!

Rose is my sister's mn and I know she would love me to use it. Her first name is Rebecca. I haven't considered it much as an fn but would like to use it.
Part of the reason I don't want it as a first name is I would also like to use the name of my husband's grandma Rhoda. I like Rhoda much better as a first name, and it's more unusual. Rhoda and Rose would be extraordinarily silly and bad for sisters (imo, anyway). Also, while I like Rosemary in theory, many of the middle names I might pair with Rose sound too much like that (Rose Marie--no, Rose Mary--no, Rose May--no.) And many flow poorly (Rose Virginia, Rose Charity, Rose Leah sounds too much like Rosalie or Rosalia). Rose Rebecca is the best of the lot, but as I said, I prefer Rhoda to Rose and can't have both as first names. (I like having Rhoda Lucy and ____ Rose, though. I have Hannah Jane and am hoping for a John one day, probably John Ernest.)
Lucinda Rose used to be one of my favorites, but I've decided to use the given names of people I'm honoring, so now it's Rhoda Lucy after DH's grandmas.
I am considering: Rebecca Rose "Rebecca" (but will probably end up using Rebecca May), Virginia Rose "Ginger", Charity Rose "Kitty" (but this one isn't appealing as much anymore), Leah Rose "Leah" (took quite a while for this to occur to me, but seems most likely at the moment). Possibilities using my list of favorites: May Rose, Christiana Rose/Rose Christiana, Cynthia Rose, Rose Teodora/Dorotea Rose, Eden Rose, Elizabeth Rose, Rose Faith, Joy Rose, Jacinda Rose, Lindy Rose, Lindsey Rose, Lucy Rose, Martha Rose, Natalia Rose, Rachel Rose, Sarai Rose, Susan Rose, Trinity Rose/Rose Trinity
Rose as a first name combos I like best:
Rose Rebecca, Rose Christiana, Rose Natalie
And from your list, Rose Magdalen or Rose Magdalene
Or maybe:
Rose Alexandra, Rose Bethlehem, Rose Catherine, Rose Deborah, Rose Eleanor, Rose Felicity, Rose Inez (like how the s says "z" and the z says "s"; don't like how it sounds like Rosiness or Rosie Ness...), Rose Keziah, Rose Keren, Rose Lucia, Rose Michaela, Rose Naomi, Rose Nadia, Rose Nadine (this sounds much better than Nadine usually does to me, maybe because it usually sounds too strong but Rose is so strong too in the fn position?), Rose Ruby (not sure, but I think this could grow on me), Rose Tabitha, Rose Talitha, Rose Tamar, Rose Verity
Edit: missed Rose Evangeline. Very nice that one.

Rose as a fn is terrific. As a mn its a bit filler-ish -- although if that's how it's used in the family then heritage trumps all.
I love the simplicity and timelessness of one syllable Rose as a fn. And you can have such fun with the mn.
Rose Magdalene / Magdalena -- gorgeous
Rose Susannah -- Oh don't you cry for me, I come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee.
Rosa Diane -- Nice
A few ideas:
Rose Dominique
Rose Lavinia
Rose Dulcinea (= sweet rose)
Rose Olivia (too botanical, perhaps)
Rose Eibhlin / Eileen
Rose Genevieve
Rose Madeleine
Rose Marguerite / Margarethe
Rose Eliana
Rose Anastasia
Rose Evelyn / Evelina
Rose Patricia
Rose Wilhelmina ("willa-MEE-nuh," honors any Williams you've got lying around)
Rose Timothea (ditto the Timothys)
Rose Dorothea
Rose Anais ("ah-nah-EES")
Rose Eleanora

My great-grandmother was Wilhelmina.
She went by Minnie.
I'm very big into honoring, so I'm not sure about a lot of thsee.
I do like:
Rose Wilhelmina
Rose Myfanwy (although my husband would never let me us Myfanwy)
Rose Veronica - Veronica is a family name.
Rose Anastasia - I love this, actually. We both love Anastasia but hate the way most Americans say it. This would be lovely.
I think, though, with our surname Rose Diane, Rose Teresa & Rose Magdalen flow the best. Plus they're so very down to earth to me - I'm as far from romantic as you can get, really. I like my names to be solid, grounded and not too romantic.

How darling is Wilhelmina, nn Minnie?
You've got some great family names to work with:
Teresa Diane
Rose Veronica
Veronica Diane (nn Vera, V, Vee, Rocky, Rona / Rhona?)
Diana Rose
Wilhelmina Diane (nn Mina, Billie?)
Teresa Rosalind
Rose Artemisia (Artemis is the Greek equivalent of Diana)
Phoebe Tess (I think Phoebe is another name for Artemis / Diana)
Selene Rose (ditto)
Willa Rosemary
Veronica Tess
Just random thoughts.

I love Rose as a first name. I strongly prefer it over Rosa.
Rose Teresa is nice.

I love Rose - I had a great aunt Rose who died young(long before my time) who was named after her aunt who had died young. Because of this I have a slightly sad association with it which is lessened because I love roses so much!
If it's used as a middle name why would his sister mind? I'd love to see Rose rescued from the middle name spot. My niece is Róise(the Irish for Rose, after her grandmother Rose).
I love Rose Teresa(my great aunt's mother was Teresa) and Rose Susannah.
I prefer Rose to Rosa.

Rose is soo sweet. I had a dream once that I had a daughter called Rose, and ever since them I have liked it a lot (I didn't really think about it much before).
But, it's not "too sweet" at all. There is actually something very sensible and smart about Rose - very put-together and serious, while still being soft.
Rose Teresa is lovely! Very smooth and glittering. I like the idea of Rosa Diane for its honouring purposes, but I don't like Rosa nearly as much as Rose. I'm not sure why - it seems haughtier and less friendly than Rose. I love Rose Susannah. Though technically Susannah Rose sounds better, Rose Susannah has such a wholesome, sunny spirit.
Rose Magdalene would also be simply gorgeous - so rich and filling. I think I like that one best.

I like Rose, but I hate Rosa. You can always use Rose as a middlename to honor your husband's family. Susannah Rose would be lovely. I am not really a fan of Rose Susannah because of the flow, but I guess it works too.
I really like Rose! It makes me think of brown, pianos, and candlelight. I think it's very sophisticated, intelligent, and musical, but has the ability to be super cute. I really only like it as a first name, and it makes great combos that way, too. I don't really like Rosa.
Rose Magdalen is awesome, and I like Rose Teresa too. But it's really hard to go wrong with Rose anything.

I prefer Rose to Rosa. If it is only used as a middle name in his family then it is not as though there would be much confusion, right?
That's what I'm thinking, too.
It might raise a few eyebrows at first but in the end it wouldn't be such a big deal.

I'm not sure it would even be an issue. People might even LIKE it.
I wouldn't consider it sickeningly sweet. It would all depend what you pair it with whether Rose or Rosa would be better. Rose Teresa and Rosa Magdalen(e) are the nicest of the combos listed.
Here are a bunch of names you can go through and decide what goes best w/ 1 or the other. Deleting Rosalie since it would seem kinda silly to pair Rose or Rosa w/ it.

I would prefer Rose to be short for a Rose- or Ros- name. And that might just solve your problems with fields of floral in-laws.
Or there's always the mn slot. It depends on your ln to some extent, but I do find the flow of Susannah Rose preferable to Rose Susannah. Diana Rose, too. Magdalen Rose.
Otherwise, Rosemary Teresa. Rosamond Magdalen. Rosalie Diane.

I think Rose is lovely, I much prefer it to Rosa (association I guess). It's so simple and beautiful. I like Rose Susannah and Rose Diane. =)
I LOVE IT! I think it's a perfect name. My Dh isn't in to it as a first name, or else I would definitely consider it.
From your combos I love/like Rose Susannah and Rose Magdalena.
I also like Rose Juliet, Rose Amelia, Rose Genevieve, Rose Estella.
All the best. :)
