Fifteen year old Amar Indra and his three year old sister Sarika Devi are from India. Soon after Sarika was born their parents disappeared, and they haven't heard from them since. Amar has done his best taking care of his baby sister, and oftentimes it's been really rough. He stopped going to school for a while so that he could work and care for his sister. He was barely making ends meet when last year a man from our agency happened across the two. It was really hard convincing Amar to come with us, but finally he did. He has gone back to school and has, amazingly, not only caught up the two years that he missed, but has surpassed his peers. His stress has greatly been reduced as he no longer has to worry about where their next meal will come from or where the two would sleep. They are both really healthy and happy now, and all they need is a loving home. We've had a hard time placing the siblings because Amar is older than most children, because our agency refuses to separate the siblings, and because Amar is gay. He has a rough time opening up about it, and he needs to be accepted into a family that will love him and accept him for who he is. Amar likes sports, hanging out with friends, and learning about things such as history, mythology, astronomy, and geography. Little Sarika is a very content girl. She adores her brother very much, and she likes spending time around him. We feared, upon taking them into our agency, that since Sarika had not formed relationships with others in her early years that she would not play well with other children or even be receptive of other people. She proved us all wrong. She loves to play with children her age, and she adores attention from adults. Please keep the agency updated on Amar and Sarika!

We enrolled Sarika in preschool and she has made lots of friends. All the teachers love her and she is quickly learning Portuguese. For the first few months after she got here, Sarika was very shy and afraid, but she now trusts Ravi and I to take care of her. Amar had a hard time settling in to high school, so we home schooled him until he spoke Portuguese. When he returned to school, Amar made friends and opened up about being gay. Since then, he has excelled in academics and in sports.Thank you for bringing us together!
