Trent says river to me, and Trenton says rather dull town. Go with Trent! It also has the advantage of not ending in -on.

on it's own.

is more of a nickname for
Trenton
. That's only probably because I've met a
Trenton
that goes by
Trent
as a nickname.

Either one is fine, but I think I like
Trenton

" a little better than just
Trent
