Jim is pretty close in his approximation of the pronunciation as kee-rye, with the accent on the first syllable. You could also write it as "keer-aay". Definitely don't pronounce the "l", as it is part of the Hungarian letter "ly", which is pronounced like the "y" in yes. The "i" is pronounced like the "ee" in bee. The "R" is slightly rolled, like pronounced in "rarely ever". Hope this helps :)

Approximate pronunciation, key-rye, with the stress on the first syllable. The Y is not a separate letter, but is there to modify the pronunciation of the letter L, which it does by modifying it out of existence. Hungarians, eh?
It means "king" by the way, but maybe you knew that.

My Hungarian is more than poor (i.e. I don't know any, but I've met Hungarians). But my guess would be something like Kee-ROH-lee.

A with a mark over it is pronounced AH; without the mark, it's like an open O. L followed by Y is suppressed. Not my fault, blame the Hungarians.

You are probably right. I realise now, it's been ages since I last talked to a Hungarian. I'll never learn the languare. Rather Chinese.
