I would pronounce it rhyming with Sasha. I think Dasha can stand alone, just like other Russian nn: Lara, Katya, Nadia, Sonia and Sasha."You sought a flower and found a fruit. You sought a spring and found a sea. You sought a woman and found a soul. You are disappointed."

For English speakers, yes, Dasha can stand just fine on its own. I don't know about its usage in Russia (assuming it's Russian?), but that wouldn't impact on your child's everyday life.I think it's nice and different. Not a favourite for me, but I do love Sasha and Misha so I can see the attraction.I pronounce it how it looks -> DASH-a. The first syllable like the word "dash"._____________________________________________________________________Elinor'Why do people with closed minds, always open their mouths?'

I've never heard of Dasha before or Dariya! I've heard of Daria but not Dariya. Dasha is okay but it sounds rather like Dasher and therefore reminds me of Santa Clause's reingdeer! :) I would pronounce it like Dah-sha or Daw-sha. I like Dariya better but Daria or Darya best overall.

I think it could stand on it's own. It would be like using Kate, Beth or Maggie as a formal name for Catherine, Elizabeth and Margaret. I pronounce it "DAH-sha". _____

I guess it could stand on its own, I'm not too crazy about it but also don't mind it really. It doesn't sound too nicknamey to me.
I would prn it DAH-sha.
