From the Royal House of: Glorian
In the Kingdom of: Fairlin
Only eight months after their wedding, Nicky gave birth to twins, which caused quite a scandal in the kingdom at first. Fairlin does not have a prudish culture, but if the queen was already pregnant when she married the king and didn't tell him, it could be considered treason, trying to get another man's child to the throne. Though the doctors have publicly announced that, according to their calculations, the little prince and princess were born six weeks to a month early, rumors still persist. Alexander, however, ignores them. He believes the doctors, the same who delivered all his children and saw Mirabelle through her difficult pregnancies. He nearly wept when he saw how much the boy resembled poor Gabriel, and the girl looked just like Cecelia did as a baby. They are his, just as much as Wyatt, Cecelia, Gabriel, Rosabel, Susanna, and Adam are. He considers them the one truly good thing that has so far come from his marriage to Nicky. He named them himself, with Nicky's blessing--she had never wanted children and was at a loss. She was rather put out when Cecelia explained to her that every name had to do with Queen Mirabelle: James and Elizabeth were Mirabelle's parents' names (Elizabeth also being after Mirabelle herself), Octavian and Juliana were the names of the brother-and-sister pair in the bedtime stories she used to tell the children, Timbre and Melody are because she loved music and was a talented singer, and Rowan and Ivy are because she loved plant names. Nicky, though she couldn't fault the names themselves, felt very pushed-aside and didn't like being reminded of her predecessor. She is quite nervous around the twins, though she cannot help but love them, and leaves them mostly in the care of the king, her stepchildren, and the two nannies who helped care for all of the royal children. Wyatt, Cecelia, Rosabel, Susanna, and even little Adam all dote upon James and Elizabeth, though the four older children were all resentful at first.
They were also half-inclined to believe the rumors until the doctors confirmed premature birth. The king, as mentioned, mostly ignores them, as he is quite sure that James and Elizabeth are his (and wouldn't much care if they weren't). Nicky, however, is quite upset over them, though she pretends to laugh them off. She knows that she is not popular or adept as Queen Mirabelle was, and knows that the people don't respect her. She does not realize it is the careless attitude she asusmes--as if she doesn't care about the people, her stepchildren, her duties, or her own newborn children--that makes the people resent her. Compared to the kind, intelligent, loving Queen Mirabelle who adored her family and her people, she seems more Flighty Queen Nicky than ever.
