In the Kingdom of: Cotswold
Round 1:
Humphrey knew from the time he was a small child that he would be King one day, and maybe soon. His mother died from the childbirth, and that was after many unsuccessful pregnancies. His father suffered a disease that left him severely weakened when he was just 2 years old. His father was partially paralyzed, and slowly lost more and more function as time went on. However, he retained his sharp mind right up until the end. Humphrey wasn't betrothed, because his father knew that he was going to have enough responsibility, and wanted to provide at least a chance at love and happiness. Just 2 months after his 18th birthday, the old King just never woke from his nights sleep. Humphrey was crowned, and his advisors urged him to seek a wife.
Humphrey, knowing that it was his duty, held a month of banquets to meet all of the eligible Ladies, Duchesses, Princesses and other nobles that his advisors wanted him to marry. Aenor came with her older sister, the Duchesses of Cerise, as a companion. However, Humphrey found Aenor's gentle wit and sparkling eyes unforgettable. He arranged to met Aenor in one of the palace gardens, and there asked her to be his wife and Queen of Cotswold. Overwhelmed, Aenor said that she would need to think on it.
However, when Aenor found her way back to her room, she also found her sister. Her sister was furious, and accused her of stealing the King from her. This put steel in Aenor's back, who knew that she didn't do any such thing. Deciding in that instant the she was fond of the King and thought that she had a good chance at happiness, she stormed out of her room and went to find the Humphrey and let him know.
The two were married at the end of summer, when all of the crops had been harvested and there was plenty for feasting. The Kingdom was overjoyed. Now they had a young, healthy King and a beautiful Queen. Cotswold was happy and peaceful...
Round 2:
The Kingdom of Cotswold is overjoyed when the young King and Queen announce that the Queen is starting her second term of a healthy pregnancy. The Royal couple spent the next 6 months happily awaiting the arrival of their new child. On the summer solstice, the Kingdom of Cotswold welcomed a Princess into the Royal family. The Queen, swearing that her daughter's cries sounded just like a little songbird, insisted on naming her daughter Byrd. King Humphrey agreed, but only if he could chose the MNs and the order. Queen Aenor agreed, knowing that the MNs would be honoring names and thinking that he would chose to honor himself and maybe his mother. However, King Humphrey chose to honor Aenor herself and then his grandmother.
The little Princess was almost 4 months old when the King had an unexpected petition for a private audience from an old acquaintance. When the Lady Isobel appeared with a 3 year old boy, the King was taken a little aback. The boy looked just like him! The Lady Isobel instantly folded herself completely onto the floor in a bow, begging the King to not get angry. King Humphrey was too taken aback to even begin to be angered. Lady Isobel explained that when Humphrey visited during her past husbands funeral, the condolences ended up producing more then expected. However, she would never have even brought the boy to court, except that she was dying. The little boy had been her joy during the last 3 years, and the thought of leaving him without anybody terrified her. She begged that he would be fostered in his court as just another child. King Humphrey agreed that at least that much would be done, and then had Lady Isobel and her child placed in a guest suite while he went to talk to his Queen.
Queen Aenor was taken aback and a little worried that this Lady Isobel was looking to position her son as heir to the throne. However, after she met with her and talked to her, she saw that it wasn't the case at all. The two women spent the winter talking and becoming close friends. The spring brought the death of Lady Isobel. Queen Aenor, feeling the loss of a newly-found friend, decided that her husband should acknowledge the young Oliver as his. Oliver will be raised as the King's son, but isn't in the direct line of succession. Only if the Queen produces no legitimate male heirs will Oliver be able to inherit the throne.
Round 3:
Just a week after Lady Isobel's funeral, Queen Aenor started feeling sick and tired all of the time. At first, she put it toward grieving for her friend, but she came to realize that it was the first signs of another pregnancy. The doctor's confirmed it, but also had some bad news. This pregnancy wasn't progressing right, the Queen's body seemed to be fighting the child growing within her. Both the Queen and the baby were at risk. Shortly after her second term started, the doctor's put the Queen on a modified bed rest, only allowing her up for short periods with never any exertion allowed. The priests prayed over the young Queen every Holy day, and kept candles burning in between. Incenses were burned in her room continually. Fresh, fragrant flowers and sweet smelling fruits were laid in bowls throughout the room. These, the priests said, would make the room less hospitable to the evil spirits trying to weaken her body and her child's forming.
Nevertheless, Queen Aenor went into labor 6 weeks early. The young prince was born scrawny, undersized and blue. However, he hollered like he wanted the world to know he had come. The doctors examined him, and sadly shook their head. The young Prince would be lucky to survive until the following night. The priests told the King and Queen that the evil spirits were just too strong. This put King Humphrey's and Queen Aenor's back up! They chose to name him on the spot, rather than wait the customary week. Valerius Malachi was chosen, for the strength of meaning: "to be strong, my angel". And this, along with Prince Valerius' first yells, seemed to do something. The young Prince survived first one night, and then two... and then a week... and then a month. Everyone in the Kingdom of Cotswold held their breath as the young Prince seemed to fight for life. However, while Prince Valerius did survive, he didn't thrive. But he was cheerful, and always ready with a smile and coo for his family. Just before his third month, he passed away. Everybody morned, but this was most especially true for those who knew the young Prince's spirit best.
For one year, the Queen insisted on wearing only yellow, the color of morning. However, after the year, she had all of her yellow items burned and told the Kingdom that, "while she will always remember and love Prince Valerius, it was time to give life over to the living". And that is what she did. King Humphrey and Queen Aenor threw themselves into the running and improving of the Kingdom of Cotswold.
And then, one morning Queen Aenor woke with a familiar feeling of sickness. She told no one of it, and swore her maids to silence. When 3 months of the sickness had passed, and she wasn't getting over it, she finally went to the doctors. They confirmed that she was pregnant. And, like the last time, things seemed to be off from what was normal. Back on bed rest, even more server than last time, with the hopes that it would help pregnancy along. The priests once again did their thing.
This time, the Queen was able to wait until the very month the doctors said the baby was due. Labor was long, and very hard. In the end, however, there were two healthy princesses, much to everyone's surprise! Queen Aenor knew when she first set eyes upon her daughters what she would name them. The first, with her light head of almost not there hair would be named after the star that the Queen saw from her bed as she pushed the children into the world. The second, with her dark hair already trying to curl would be named after the moon, which was just a thin curl while the rest was black and hidden. As usual, the remainder of the names were devoted to honoring relatives.
The Kingdom of Cotswold rejoiced that the children were born healthy and that Queen Aenor came through the pregnancy alive. However, it was whispered about that maybe this was a sign that the young Comte Oliver should be officially adopted and made the next in line. Everybody was waiting for a legitimate prince, and Queen Aenor knew that it was her duty to provide, not just the Kingdom, but her beloved husband with a son.
Round 4:
At first, Queen Aenor and King Humphrey just thought that they were having a hard time getting pregnant. But, after 4 years, they had to admit the truth. The doctors and priests both examined the Queen. The doctors told her that the last two pregnancies tore her up inside, the priests told her that the evil spirits had put a black curse on her. Either way, the results were the same, Queen Aenor was now barren. Life, however, continued for the Royal family and the Kingdom of Cotswold. If necessary, there was an heir. They could also marry Byrd off and name her Queen, but that would mean letting the throne pass out of the hands of the Tyrian family.
Just after the twins turned 6, a miracle was announced. The Queen was pregnant! This time, she seemed to keep her strength, and everything seemed to be going well. It wasn't until her sixth month that the doctors noticed what had gradually been happening. Queen Aenor was loosing weight, even while her belly was swelling. Her skin was turning pale, and pasty, her hair and nails brittle. As the pregnancy progressed, the sickness became more noticeable. What made everything all the more awful was the fact that he strength never seemed to ebb and her eyes remained bright. The doctors were at a loss, but tried everything they could think of. Her diet was changed, bed rest was insisted, and every tonic they could think of was pushed on her. The priests also preformed every rite they could think of.
On the morning that the baby was due, Queen Aenor's maid came to wake the Queen and give her another dose of tonic. As she approached the Queen in her bed, she heard a rattling breath, the Queen's last. She screamed, which brought in the guards, who ran for the doctors, priests, and King Humphrey. The doctors announced that she was gone, but the baby was still living. The priests announced that her soul was gone and her body just an empty shell. King Humphrey was grief stricken. Telling the doctors to save his child, the King went to Queen Aenor's side and stroked her hair. The doctors tried to get King Humphrey to leave, but he refused and roared that they had better start saving his child. Shaken, the doctors briefly talked over the best way to get the infant out. In the end, and incision was made in the Queen's belly and the baby pulled out. King Humphrey only left Queen Aenor's side when the child started screaming.
Seeing that Queen Aenor had given her life to bring his son in the world, King Humphrey thought that Aenor would consider it a fair trade - he wasn't so sure. After the first week, the infant was named. Sebastian, as Aenor wished she could always name a son, Phineas after the first Tyrian King, and Lysander after his mother. King Humphrey was only allowed to wear the yellow of morning for six months. After that, he was forced by circumstances to search for a new wife. According to his advisors, he was too young to not be married and his Kingdom wanted a Queen. Besides, this was his chance to make an alliance and strengthen his throne. Seeing the truth in the advice, he allowed a search to start.
In the end, he chose to marry the Marquesa of Aernis, Lula. She was of a minor family, all the way on the outer border of Cotswold. However, the union provided a strong trade alliance between the Royal family and the Aerniseans, and would bring much wealth to the King and much needed prestige to the Aerniseans. Lula was a sweet girl, the eldest of the Marquess. She was quiet, thoughtful, and artistic. Her gentle ways were different from Aenor's, and the Kingdom wasn't sure if this was a good thing or not. However, Oliver was sure that this wasn't a good thing. This woman was usurping the one mother he could remember. Besides, she wasn't much older then him and barely of higher rank (before marriage)! He is the only one of his siblings to feel this way. Byrd loves Lula like an elder sister, Estela, Ileana and Sebastian are already starting to think of her as Mama Lula. King Humphrey still secretly carries a yellow handkerchief, but he is also finding that he is growing to admire Lula. There is hope...
Round 5:
Just a few months after the wedding, the Royal couple was announcing that Queen Lula was pregnant. And that is when it all started. Suddenly, the Kingdom was abuzz with rumors. Queen Lula was said to have gotten herself pregnant by a rivaling lord of the Pyren Empire that neighbored Aernis land. This was all an attempt by the Pyren Empire to get the throne of Cotswold as part of their already large lands. This rumor found few footholds however, as most knew that King Humphrey was an intelligent King with the interest of Cotswold always on his mind. Oliver, on the other hand, fit this rumor into the base of dislike he was building towards Queen Lula. He quietly kept his hatred to himself though.
Seven and a half months later, Queen Lula gave birth to two tiny twins. The doctors announced that they were at least a month early, and the priests said that the parentage was clearly of the Tyrian line. Queen Lula named the little Prince Geoffrey, to honor his father with a name of similar meaning, and the little Princess Eleanor to honor the late Queen Aenor. As usual, the middle names were chosen to honor relatives.
The early birth only fueled the rumors afresh. However, King Humphrey, Queen Lula and everyone else in the Royal household, Oliver excluded, knew them for false. On their first birthday, King Humphrey threw a Royal feast in honor of his new wife and Prince Geoffrey and Princess Eleanor. Princess Byrd, Estela, Ileana, and Prince Sebastian were all very proud to be a part of the festivities and had a little gift for Queen Lula and each of the infants. Oliver refused to attend, finding the rumors fueling his hatred once more.
Round 6:
After a few quiet years in Cotswold, Queen Lula announces that she is once again pregnant. This time the kingdom rejoices with the news. Queen Lula's quiet and gentle ways have made the Kingdom come to love her. She has proven herself a wonderful mother to all of the children, and has started a schooling project for all of the children who wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise.
However, when the Queen delivers her baby a month early, the rumors start back up. Much to Oliver's horror, he is now a part of the rumors. They point to the closeness of their age and whisper that he is more likely the father of the children. With this, Oliver has to take a look within himself and reevaluate has old hatred. Finding that it was based in childish ideas, he finally starts to let it go and give his new mom a chance.
Queen Lula names the Princess Ophelia, which was Lady Isobel's middle name and the name of Lula's beloved sister. Because of the association with the Queen's sister, they decide to use the nickname Effie to distinguish her from her aunt. As usual, her middle names all honor past relatives. Fiona was Queen Lula's beloved grandmother and Delphine was wife to King Phineas. Things are quiet, but there is still some faction that is trying to create unrest in Cotswold. The future is murky.

The doctors announced that they were at least a month early, and the priests said that the parentage was clearly of the Tyrian line. Queen Lula named the little Prince Geoffrey, to honor his father with a name of similar meaning, and the little Princess Eleanor to honor the late Queen Aenor. As usual, the middle names were chosen to honor relatives.
The early birth only fueled the rumors afresh. However, King Humphrey, Queen Lula and everyone else in the Royal household, Oliver excluded, knew them for false. On their first birthday, King Humphrey threw a Royal feast in honor of his new wife and Prince Geoffrey and Princess Eleanor. Princess Byrd, Estela, Ileana, and Prince Sebastian were all very proud to be a part of the festivities and had a little gift for Queen Lula and each of the infants. Oliver refused to attend, finding the rumors fueling his hatred once more.
Round 6:
After a few quiet years in Cotswold, Queen Lula announces that she is once again pregnant. This time the kingdom rejoices with the news. Queen Lula's quiet and gentle ways have made the Kingdom come to love her. She has proven herself a wonderful mother to all of the children, and has started a schooling project for all of the children who wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise.
However, when the Queen delivers her baby a month early, the rumors start back up. Much to Oliver's horror, he is now a part of the rumors. They point to the closeness of their age and whisper that he is more likely the father of the children. With this, Oliver has to take a look within himself and reevaluate has old hatred. Finding that it was based in childish ideas, he finally starts to let it go and give his new mom a chance.
Queen Lula names the Princess Ophelia, which was Lady Isobel's middle name and the name of Lula's beloved sister. Because of the association with the Queen's sister, they decide to use the nickname Effie to distinguish her from her aunt. As usual, her middle names all honor past relatives. Fiona was Queen Lula's beloved grandmother and Delphine was wife to King Phineas. Things are quiet, but there is still some faction that is trying to create unrest in Cotswold. The future is murky.
