[Opinions] Herman
I'm really loving Herman at the moment, and I find the sound of the name particularly pleasing. However, I can't envision myself warming up to its meaning: "army man." What do you think of the name? How might you reinterpret the meaning so that it sits well with me, a man who is not terribly fond of the army (to put it mildly)? Also, of course, what do you think of these combinations? In some cases I attempted to soften Herman's Teutonic vigor by pairing it with a French name; in other cases I threw caution to the wind and glorified the German spirit.Herman Achille (double dose of "army man")

I like Herman as a name. I better put on my namelist before I add the remaining Natalie-like names.

It's sturdy and intelligent and rather distinguished. The first associations I had were Herman Melville, Herman Wouk and Hermann Hesse, so it also sounds very literary - but then there's also Herman Munster. :D
I guess you could wriggle the meaning around a bit and have Herman as his own personal army. Someone who forges ahead bravely, taking no crap and winning his personal battles. Rar!
Great combos, as usual. Herman Achille is really handsome. I also like Herman Julius, Herman Lazslo, Herman Ludovic, and Herman Thibault.

supercuteI like Herman more than Norman, but maybe not Vernon, because it is so out of left field. I don't even know any old men named Herman, it's so old. Therefore it is excellent. Vernon and Herman, now there's a cage match for you.I once posted a thread about having to pick two siblings who had the same chart number, and I plucked the duo of Herman and Pearl from one of those lists - probably the 30's. I blew my own mind. I mean can you imagine.Anyways, these are ace:
Herman Alonso
Herman Balthazar
Herman Cecil
Herman Eloi - LOVE Eloi!

I have a large stuffed hippo named Herman that I am very fond of. I was never a huge fan of the name in practice, but now it will forever be "Herman the Hippo" to me.
