[Surname] Legit or not?
I'm trying to figure out whether or not Gervaise is a legitimate last name, and if so what the name's origin is. Any insight at all?

You'll find the distribution of the surname Gervaise at http://is.gd/e7ytO.
It seems to be a real French surname. There are, for example:
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_Gervaise, http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Charles_Gervaise_de_Latouche, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fran%C3%A7ois_Armand_Gervaise, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Gervaise.
Gervais/Gervaise is also a real French given name, the equivalent of Latin Gervasius, probably a Latinized form of a Germanic name with a first element deriving from ger "spear".
