In the Queendom of Thaeris
Just after Ezio and Arlet's second birthday, the High Priestess Asenath found herself pregnant once again. But this time, the physicians and other priestesses were worried that she might be too old for such a thing. They decided to try to convince her to give the infant up using one of their rituals, but Asenath rejected the idea vehemently, insisting that Sul'i will never be pleased at such atrocities.
Unfortunately, as Asenath's child (a daughter, the priestesses divine) is merely two months away from birth, a mysterious plague entered Thaeris. Casualties were adding with horrible speeds as more and more succumbed to the plague. Asenath, despite being heavily pregnant, went in to beseech Sul'i daily about their condition. To her surprise and fear, Sul'i never answered more than that "the death wants a sarcifice of two". Asenath was mystified with this, and had a long discussion with Valen about it.
As time goes by, even the High Priestess' family suffered from the plague that henceforth became known as Sul'i'reva (Sul'i's anger). First it was the High Priestess' niece, Vaza, who contacted a form of the plague. From there it went on to her playmate, the Sul'i'ah Kiara, and then to the Consort Valen, and even the pregnant Asenath. The rest of the children - Zubia, Desmon, Crezia, Giovan, Ezio, and Arlet (especially Zubia) were swiftly sent to find the Strangers, escorted with only a meagre amount of guards and a handmaiden or two. Zubia took it to herself to lead her siblings to the safety of the Strangers, and after a long journey all of the children were very much relieved to be able to flock into their "uncle" Ezio's welcoming arms.
Back at Thaeris, things had never been so chaotic. Just as the plague seemed to die away, Asenath gave birth to her daughter a few weeks too early. The newborn Sul'i'ah, Constanza, died before a day passed by, bringing Asenath and Valen even more distress. Finally, after a long vigil by his wife's bedside as the tribe raged on with disease outside, Valen emerged from their bedroom, scraggy, exhausted, and desperate: Asenath has died.
Thaeris has finally settled down. The Sul'i'reva has left them after the sacrifice of two (Asenath and her daughter Constanza). Valen sent a messenger to his friend Ezio that the children may return now, but was quite surprised to see the children return with Ezio accompanying them. Valen slowly and gravely approached Zubia and whispered the news to her: she is to be the High Priestess as soon as she is of age. At first, Zubia asked her father why, but when the realisation dawned on her, took to it grimly that she will serve Sul'i as best as she could.
Relieved that his daughter took the news relatively well, Valen then proceeded to tell Ezio and the rest of the children. After thanking the Strangers profoundly for their help, Valen hinted to Ezio that his daughter Zubia will need a Consort in her time. Trying his best to console his comrade, Ezio told Valen of a recently-arrived young Duke, enthusiastic about the tribes and living between them. A meeting was then arranged between the Duke Michael, the Dowager Consort Valen, and the Destined High Priestess Zubia. In a while it became apparent that Zubia and Michael were an excellent match, and the two were betrothed.
