In the Kingdom of Dunlin
Dunlin has gone to war! The Kin people, furious with the Royals of Dunlin for harboring the late Emperor Philip’s family and naming his daughter Helen the Empress Regnant of Kin, sent the Queen and Prince a letter demanding that they release the Princesses of Kin into the custody of the Kin people so that “justice could be served.” Knowing that giving Nell and Maggie to the Kin Rebels would mean their deaths, Queen Catherine and Prince Christopher found it impossible to acquiesce to the Rebels’ “requests.” They also realized that the Rebels would never just leave Nell and Maggie alone, so they declared that the Kin people had committed treason in threatening to kill their Empress, and thus declared war on Kin.
Prince Christopher once more headed the armies, leaving Queen Catherine and the family in the palace. Four years of bloody battles ensued. Finally, the heads of the Rebellion were kidnapped and executed. The Empire was reinstated, although it was deemed still unsafe for Nell and Maggie to return to Kin.
Eight months later, twin princesses were born. The pregnancy was hard on Queen Catherine and the twins were not as healthy as the Royal physicians would have liked, but the Dunlish people took the birth of twin princesses as a good sign and were happy to have something to celebrate.
**Yes, Prince Theodore is Theo’s title to the Dunlish people. See, I’ve always been fascinated by royals that start out with one name, but it gets changed because they live in some foreign place. Examples would be Queen Catherine of Aragon, who was born Catalina; or Prince Philip of England, who was born Philippos. My idea is that Kin is, for naming purposes, (loosely) Greece and Dunlin is England. So, my Queen Catherine, who was born in Kin, and Prince Christopher, who was born in Dunlin, would have a mix of Greek and English names that the Dunlish people would try to Dunlin-fy. So, that’s why Theodoric would be Theodore, Lucretia goes by her nickname, and Magdalena is Madeline.
