[Opinions] Alys.
I've decided that I'm going to use Alys, no matter what people think of it. It's a Medieval spelling of Alice and has been a favorite for a long time. I don't like Alice at all - it's whiny and prissy to me, whereas Alys is not. (I have the same problem with Eleanor/Elinor.) Even odder is the fact that two of my favorite authors are named Alice - Alice Munro and Alice Hoffman.
Opinions? Thoughts? Middle names?

I had a colleague once, an English teacher of high school mathematics, who was an Alys; so it's got a lively, intelligent, energetic vibe for me.
I'd try to stay medieval for a mn if at all possible. OK, they mostly didn't use mns in the actual Middle Ages, but Alys Tegan would be awful, for instance, and Alys Theresa could be considered. I'd like Alys Margery!

Thanks!
Your okay tends to mean a lot because you have - I suppose it's slightly rude term - horse sense when it comes to names. :-D
I like Alys Theresa, especially as it brings to mind Teresa of Avila.

That's a real compliment - thank you too!
And as a reward, may I share one of my favourite poems?
One day the God of War
Was riding on his filly;
"I'm Thor!" he cried
And the horse replied,
"You've forgotten your thaddle, you thilly."
Horse sense that really appeals to me ...

I like this spelling. Alice might rise in popularity, so the medieval version makes it different. I approve.
I like it. I actually think that spelling looks classier than Alice.
I like both Alice and Alys, but I prefer Alice. Alys would be hard to prn in Swedish and i wouldn't use it because some people will probably think it is a kre8tyv spelling of Alice. However, as I said, I like it too.

Alys Emerentia
Alys Theodora
Alys Georgiana

I really like the spelling Alys! :) (although that could be because my name is Elysa which has a similar spelling)
I really like Alys! My only fear is that people will assume it's a trendy manipulation of Alice; then again, some people are silly.

I wanted to say that it really doesn't bother me if it looks "made up" or "misspelled." After being here for years I've quickly learned that someone is always go to see one or another name as lower class or trashy. I just don't care anymore - period. If my child doesn't like his or her name there is the option of changing it. I don't buy into the the idea of making your child's life miserable. At 18 they can do what they want and plenty do. I know I changed my for a while before I went back.
