Three years later, Thaeris has remained as quiet as ever. The High Priestess Zubia has kept her reign calm and just, and not many changes have happened. Sul'i'mi Ezio and his wife Honora has had a pair of twin girls, Verity and Sonata, or Lady Veri and Lady Sona. Sul'i'ah Arlet has discovered, somewhat to her regret, that she is most likely barren. Dorian brought home a pair of dogs to soothe her (knowing that Arlet dotes on the creatures), and in a while the dogs Romulus and Remus became their favourites. Sul'i'mi Desmon has ceased to travel as much, especially since he was assigned to train Thaeris' military. He and Éabha had gotten themselves another son, Duilio, and Éabha had declared that this will be their last! With a handful already (Suvio, Anca, Gia, and Ilina), the family was never quite the restful one.
However, in the midst of the peaceful times, a small faction had begun to attack. It seems like there has been a group of secret rebels which had by now decided that it is time to move! The rebels, calling themselves the Unji (in Thaeris' language, "freedom"), have begun to grow bases every here and there. Zubia was worried about this change, but she did not manage to do much before the Unji made their surprise attack.
The High Priestess' quarters was attacked. The Unji stormed the quarters in a sudden shockwave in the middle of the night and managed to capture a good lot of the house of Cra'don. The Dowager Valen and his wife Cecilia had lived separately, and managed to evade the attack, but most of their children and grandchildren were captured. The High Priestess Zubia, along with her Consort Michael and children Ianthe, Zefa, Melis, and Verisla were brought to one of the Unji's bases, while everyone else present were brought to another compound.
However, not all hope is lost. While the Unji had declared the fall of the reign of Sul'i's disciples and the beginning of a rule of the people, they had taken care not to reveal that some of the house of Cra'don are not captured. The Sul'i'mi Desmon, along with his eldest son Suvio, had just been returning from a visit to the Strangers when the raid happened, and had escaped unharmed into the forests. Still, Suvio was especially frightened with the prospect of losing his family, and Desmon, as much as he hated to admit it, was at a loss of what to do.
The first step for him to take was to warn his father and step-mother, and to send his son to safety. With words of encouragement and strict warnings, Suvio was sent to the safety of the Strangers' settlement, along with word regarding the coup d'etat. As soon as Suvio had bravely departed, Desmon set off to his parents' house. Valen and Cecilia had just received the news themselves, and it was soon decided that Cecilia will run after Suvio to come with him to the Strangers while Valen and Desmon wait for the supporters of Sul'i's reign to back them up.
In a few days, the Strangers had sent their backup, along with Valen and Desmon's trusted friend Ezio. The three of them managed to find what few were left who had remained loyal to Thaeris instead of the new Unji regime, and soon a plan was made for the new attack. As soon as the plans were finalised, the group of father, son, and friend prepared to lead their respective bands to charge in.
The battle was a bloody one, and the losses on both sides were excruciating. At the end, Valen's army managed to enter the new castle about the same time Desmon's had annihilated the defenses and released Zubia's family, while Ezio's group released the other hostages and sent them fleeing into the forests. At last the Unji were disbanded, most of them either dead or as good as dead, but victory came at a cost. When Desmon returned to the castle his father had stormed, all he saw was the remains of a bloody massacre, soldiers holding the Unji troops hostage, and his mentor Ezio kneeling in silence. It did not take words for Desmon to understand the message: his father had died.
The Unji were finally eliminated, and the High Priestess tremblingly returned to her position. But Thaeris was also deep in grief for the loss of their many citizens and the Dowager Consort. Especially saddened was Desmon, who was half convinced he could have prevented his father's death, and Vaza, who had lost the only father figure she ever had in her life. Thaeris once again settled into a languid state, although very much weakened, and their future seemed somewhat bleak.
Cecilia, having lost her husband, returned to live with her step-daughter Kiara. Zubia and her family continued their previous positions, despite their internal fears haunting them. Desmon confided deeper than ever in Ezio, who he had come to regard as his new father. Giovan, shaken by the recent events, had agreed with his wife Frieda to move to the safer Strangers' settlements. Vaza and Samir were busy nursing Beatri, who was terribly shocked after the attacks, so much that Malik had to be paid attention to by Éabha for the time being. Ezio the younger and Arlet, the twins, resumed their lives closer than ever, and the rest of Thaeris struggled to return to their previous dreams of peace and prosperity.
