I know one...
She's maybe 10 now? It's absolutely not my style for girls or boys, but I'd have to say that I like it better on a girl than a boy.

I can tollerate it on a boy, but find it incredibly unfeminine. The -ton ending just grates my ears.

For a girl, I wouldn't. I wouldn't want to be a woman named Ashton. The sht part ... I wouldn't wanna hear it every time I was addressed, and I wouldn't want to sound like I had a man name, either. Besides, as an obvious surname name, it sounds like it's trying hard to seem classy, and ... well, who would feel the need to try? The question answers itself.

It really sounded ridiculous to me. Plus, because of the fact the name's probably famous due to Ashton Kutcher, it's very much BOY to me. There are so many great girls' names out there, or even boys' names that have become unisex...

I'm clearly in a minority here but I like it for a girl although it's a GP. I've liked it for years, long before I discovered it was an actual name. (I'd heard of it as a place name and thought it would make a nice girls' name). I dislike it as a boys' name. I don't know what I'd put with it as I most likely wouldn't use it anyway. I think since Ashton Kutcher has become well known, most people probably think of it as boys' name.

Should be left as a surname and not used as a fn on either gender... but generally, most surnames are worse on girls than boys.

I had a friend on my bowling team who said she wanted to name her daughter Ashton.
Another friend said "Like Ashton Kutcher?!"
That was pretty good; she was really quick with the reaction. :)

I love unisex names, but...
...big, fat NO on this one. I don't like it for a boy, either; it's preppy, annoying, and very college jock.

The pool of masculine names keeps shrinking as parents of little girls use them for their dds. Whenever a great, forgotten, traditional masculine name is rediscovered there's sure to be parents of little girls ready to co-opt it.
I wouldn't mind so much if it worked both ways. But it doesn't. Please, for the sake of parents of little boys, don't use Ashton for a girl. There are so many other great, feminine names that you could use.
