I love Alasdair / Alastair! I have no idea about it's views in Ireland/Scotland.

I like it. It's a friendly, handsome name. It's fairly common in the UK and I've known quite a few of them, spelt Alasdair, Alistair or Alastair. According to Scottish statistics, it hasn't been in the top 100 in Scotland since 2001:

My son is Peter David Alastair; we're not Scottish but we've got two friends with Scottish parents who spell it that way. I've known an Alasdair and a couple of Alistairs, but none of the others. For combos, I suppose you couldn't go wrong with the standard Scottish names: James, Hugh, David, Keith, Douglas ...

I love it! I like the spelling Alasdair, but Alistair is my 2nd choice. I don't think there are any bad connotations-- here in the USA it's just kind of a stuffy old guy name, probably because most (older) people would think of Alistair Cooke.

How are you pronouncing it? I have heard it couple different ways. Anyway, I love it. I like Alistair best but Alasdair is great too.

I know an Alistair from Scotland.
I think I prefer it spelled Alastair.
But I prefer Alasdair over all Alistair spellings. The Alistair I know is called Alistair Paxton and I LOVE that (though Paxton is actually his surname).
I have a character named Alasdair Morgan.I like Alistair Milo and Alistair Ronan (or Rowan).

I like it. My preferred spelling is Alastair. It's always been common in Scotland (don't know about Ireland, it's not Irish). I don't know of any bad connotations. It's very usable, imo.

Don't know about Ireland/Scotland, and I probably don't speak for most of the US either when I say this, but I really like Alastair, or Alastor (since I have been raised on harry potter). I actually had it as a pairin for a while as Alastair Percival or Alastair Perceus, but people said that sounded rather pretentious. Then again if your using Alastair... Might as well go all the way. :)
