[Opinions] Thoughts on Mattias?
What are you opinions on Mattias/Matthias? What spelling do you prefer? I think the first one would enforce the pronounciation better (Mah-tee-es). Also, how to Andreas and Mattias sound as brothers? I would also need a unique nn for Mattias, Matt will not do. Any ideas? I wouldnt want Andreas "Ace" to have a nn and Mattias to not have one. ThanksAlso, Would Andreas, Mattias, and Cecily be a strange combo? We love German boys names, but were dont like many girls.

I adore Matthias. Thats my favourite spelling cause it looks the most complete to me and I worry about Mattias being more prone to the nn Matt, which I loathe. But I do like all the spellings of it. I prn. it the same way as you, in terms of spelling I think Matias is the most straight forward pronounciation wise.I plan on using Matthias as a middle name for either a first or second son- my combo atm is Oscar Matthias. I love the meaning and the sound of the name.Andreas and Mattias sound good for brothers. I wouldn't worry too much about nn's, they usually just develope once a child is here. But I can totally understand wanting to avoid Matt (yuck) by having another nn in place from the start. How about Tias? (tee-es). Way better than Matt. Love the sibset. Cecily is a great name. I don't think sibsets have to match at all so I'm all for mixing.

Thanks for the reply. Im not set on nns I just want ones in place so I dont end up with Andreas and Mattias beind called Andy and Matt(gross). All three of my sisters sons get called nns by the rest of the family, so I'm certain it will happen with my kids too. And I'd rather it be a nn I like. I really like Tias and Mac right now. Btw, Oscar Matthias is so handsome!

Fair enough. Totally get you on that. Thats why i hestitate about using Luca and Micah- I'm scared they'd get Luke & Mike (yuck) and I can't come up with anything to replace them with. I'm all for Tias.Thankyou. I am quite in love with it myself.

If it's any help, the Micah I know has never been called Mike (his dad calls him Mikey sometimes, but he's the only one).

I like Matthias! Mattias does enforce the pronunciation more though. Matias even more than that. I like Andreas and Mattias. I think they fit fine with Cecily. They aren't *so* German that they don't fit with non-German names.
Mat, Matti, Tias, Max, Marty, Maty, Mas? That's hard..

Thanks for the suggestions. Do you think Max is too much of a stretch? I was also thinking Mac or Mack, his ln would begin with a C. Ace is not a very obvious nn for Andreas so I dont mind if its kinda a stretch.

I think it is a stretch, but not any more of a stretch than Ace, so if you like Max or Mac go for it! (I don't like Mack though)

Thanks. I think I'm gonna go with Mac. I only want them to have nns for the families sake. I prefer if they go by their full names in public and in school. Ace, Mac, and Cece would just be for us.

It's kinda getting trendy, but still likable... If you want to prn. you mention, it's prob'ly better w/out the h or people might sometimes say ma-thigh-as) and while both are ok, it's better to go w/ the one that points more strongly to the prn. you're wanting.
I guess they'd be ok as bro.s. I wouldn't use Cecily w/ anything bec. of the meaning.
I suppose you could use Tees as a nn... Not everyone has to have a nn. My parents addressed me by a nn until I was almost 8 and found out my real name, after which I started insisting on that and ONLY that. They never used nns for either of my bro.s.

I prefer the Matthias pronunciation but Mattias is nice, too. I don't care for Cecily but it fits nicely with the other names. As for NNs how about Ty, Tias, At, Ant, M, Math (for the "th" spelling), Tas, Taz.

Taz is kinda fun.

Thanks. Ya know, I tried to vote on your PNL but I can't seem to find it. Maybe it is still marked private?

I like it a lot. Mattias is a common name here in Sweden and I had a best friend called Mattias when I was a child.

I love Matthias (spelt like this).I think Andreas, Matthias and Cecily is a good sibling set.

I love Mattias, but prefer it spelt Matthias. It sounds great with Andreas, but I don't think Cecily fits in. What are some of the German girl names that you do like? Personally I think Ingrid or Helene would go nicely with them, but you might not like?

I like Ingrid but my SO hates it. He likes very soft, feminine girls names. His favorites are Cecily, Elodie, Genevieve, Eliana. I seem to like a lot of French and English girls name. I love Rosalie (which is both German and French), but I dont know if I can bring myself to replace Cecily. The name is perfect to us and has a great deal of meaning, its our go to name for a girl. I understand that is isnt the best match with Andreas and Mattias, but I'm more concerned with how the name will fit my daughter and its hard to imagine her as anything but Cecily at this point.

Rosalie and Genevieve are WAY better than Cecily. Just think of the meanings.

I could really care less about the meaning of names. It is the farthest thing from my mind when selecting a name. I like Cecily for the Oscar Wilde play "The Importance of Being Earnest." Rosalie and Genevieve are beautiful but they dont have significant literary references to either of us.
