[Opinions] Elisabeth / Elizabeth
Replies
My middle name is Elizabeth and I like it. But I like the spelling Elisabeth because I am into less common spelling of common names. But as for nicknames I like Eliza. that is what I would go by. But I also like Eli (pronounced Ellie) or Elsie. Bessie and any other name like that sound way too old. And Liz or Lizzie are way too popular.

My daughter's mn is Elizabeth and she speaks up strongly for Bess.
I like this name, and it seems to be one that has remained popular decade after decade.
I would choose the Z spelling, because it is more common and it follows pronunciation, for me at least.
I would use the nickname Bessie, probably, because it is a great-grandmother's name. I might use Liz or Lizzie as a second choice.

I prefer Elisabeth, however, the nns I prefer are usually associated with the 'z' spelling so I'd use that. The 's' spelling is only worth the potential hassle, imo, if the nn makes sense to me (Elisa, Elise, Lisette, Liese, Elsa, etc.).
Fave Elizabeth combo: Elizabeth Eve (nn Ellie). I actually like Bess best but not with my surname. It just doesn't work (ditto with Betsy).

My name is Elizabeth, although I actually prefer Elisabeth. It seems softer and more unique than Elizabeth. Elizabeth is just too common for my taste. Lately, I have actually been having people refer to me by my middle name, which I love much more.
I don't really like Lizzy, Liz, Beth, or Bessie. I absolutely adore the nickname Lisa, and lately Bess has been beginning to grow on me. Just never nickname your kid Ebbie. There are still some childhood friends that call me that and all of my relatives know me by that as well.

I really like Elizabeth. I like either Betty or Liz(for a more modern nickname).
Elizabeth as it is the more common spelling.
At the moment I'm liking Eliza or Lise, but I'd use whatever suited her most.

I love Elizabeth. It's so elegant to say, and it's so strong and simple and classic. It's on our list to use, but not up high enough that it would probably ever happen.
I only like the spelling Elizabeth. Elisabeth looks strange and makes me want to emphasize the s.
I'd use the nn Lizzie, but I do quite like Beth, too.

Elisabeth. Normally I go with the original / more common spellings, but Elisabeth looks softer and prettier to me.
I like Ellie and Bessie; I might use them both. I have a friend named Elizabeth who goes by Beth, so that one is out. Liz looks too grown-up and dated to me. Bess is okay, but I prefer Bessie. I had a friend who just went by Elizabeth and never used a nickname - I like that option too, but I compulsively nick-name cute things like babies and rabbits, so I'm sure I'd have to use one.

I agree, I just don't like Z's at all I think!
I like it and prefer it spelled Elizabeth. The S spelling makes no sense to me, since I pronounce the name with a Z sound and so does everyone I know. I've never even heard the name pronounced any other way. In other countries, I'm sure this is different, so the S spelling makes sense, but not here. It makes none, so it's very jarring to me.
I'm not overly fond of any of the nicknames, which is why I don't think I'd ever actually use Elizabeth, but if I had to pick one, Betsy, which is rather cute and has some spunk.

I like it as a mn. if using it on my own child (Bronwyn or Bronwen as a fn) and lean towards the z sp. in En.-speaking countries. If one must use a nn, my prefs are Beth and Betsy. I really don't like Liz so much and Ellie doesn't catch my fancy either. Bess and Bessie have too much of a farmyard animal image to use on a human.
