The Walshes
DH: Norwood "Woody" (50) Woody is the youngest of ten brothers. His parents and older brothers emigrated to the U.S. from a little village in England called Norwood, and he was their only son to be born in America and to never see the village. He was named Norwood so that the village "would still be a part of him". His brothers called him Woody because, as they put it, "Your head's made of nothing but wood!" There are no middle names in his family.
DW: Tempest Eleonore Ainslie "Tessie" (46) Tessie was born on a stormy winter night. It was plain to see that the storm was within newborn Tessie as well, hence the name Tempest, meaning "violent storm". She wasn't called Tessie until middle school, when classmates were exposed to Shakespeare and learned the meaning of "tempest", and teased her about it. Her best friend Nadine came to her rescue and started calling her Tessie, which stuck. Eleonore was her German grandmother's name. Ainslie is her maiden name.
DS: Sandulf Anthony "Sandy" (24) Sandulf is a Gothic name meaning "true wolf" (see Sandalio). One of the first things that Woody noticed about Sandy when he was first born was the birthmark on his shoulder blade shaped like a pawprint. He still calls it Sandy's "wolf print".
