[Opinions] Joel
What kind of vibe do you get from Joel? It is another name we are considering for Peter's brother (in addition to Conrad, Nathaniel, Theodore, and Richard).

Really, really dislike Joel. It's unattractive and dated, imo.
Considering its a classic, gentle biblical name like Peter, i think they go well together.
I love it. It was high on my list. It seems somewhat short and not quite right as a full name to me though. I think that is why I chose Vincent.
Vincent is nice too.
I do like it, but I'd rank it third after Conrad and Richard. Where I live, it has a sporty, successful, civilised vibe; and I really like Joe as a nn.
A few reactions based on pronunciations...
JOL: Strong, rugged, logger type. I could see him as either red-headed, blond, or balding (w/dark hair). An authoritative person, and probably an oldest child. Extensive book-knowledge and well grounded. Hmm... I think that's it. Oh, he might have a beard. Happily married with a nice family. Has a wood stove in his house, whether it's used or not.
jo-EL: Athletic, nice, and smiles a lot. Easily distracted. I picture a je-EL as being a lot younger than a JOL, for some reason.
As a sibling for Peter, it doesn't work to me. Peter seems like it needs a longer name to make a matching set. *quietly votes for Conrad*

I absolutely adore the name Joel. It's the perfect balance of strong and gentle, and sounds very grown up. Of course I'm biased as it's DBFs name. I really like it with Peter though. They just suit each other in terms of personality.
Joel's decent and goes well w/ Peter. It's not 1 of my faves, but I do prefer it to Richard and prefer ALL the other picks you've got on here to Conrad. (Don't know what it is about Conrad that makes me think of Conan/Konan the Barbarian whenever I see it... 'cept maybe the con part... Whatever the case, something about it sounds rather chav)

I love Joel. I think it handsome and so friendly sounding. I love all the names you're considering though so it is really hard to pick! I think Joel has a slightly different feel to the rest...more down-to-earth. Richard and Nathaniel are my favourite of the options. Theodore, Conrad and Joel are all tied beneath them.
By the way, I just realised why I love the sound of Peter and Richard together- my Dad is Peter and his brother is Richard :-) They are the closest in age and still inseparable so Richard and Peter just sound like the should go together to me! My other Uncle's names are Joseph and Isaac.

It's my nephews name, he was born 8 weeks ago. I think it's a good name. It seems quite popular, but it's timeless.
My first thought was that it didn't seem popular at all, but I decided to check the popularity stats and it seems to depend on what country you're in... ie. rather popular in Sweden, but not so much in Canada.
Yes, true. I live in Australia and during the 80's and 90's it was very popular. It's died down a bit now and you see very few newborns with it.
I like Joel. Down to earth, friendly, energetic. All of the names you listed as possibilities are handsome. :)
I have only known one Joel, and that was years ago. But he was a nice boy. Very friendly and outgoing and very into music. I like Joel!
Physically weak, hapless, book-smart, not sensitive, and not traditionally manly either. A guy with big brown doe eyes, who has a good sense of humor, but is always missing the mark. Not sure where I got that, but urp, there it is...
*votes for Conrad again*
I like Richard too. Would you call him Rick or Rich, or just Richard?

Thanks for the detailed interpretation of Joel. As far as Richard goes, I would just call him Richard. I'm not crazy about any of the nicknames.
Richard's probably not a good idea, then. Just my 2 cents but nns for long fns seem to be pretty unavoidable.
I like Joel. It's classic, easy to spell and pronounce and not that common. I don't think I've ever known one. Re: my impressions, someone masculine, intelligent, educated, not overly serious but not a jokester either, responsible. It goes well with Peter (which I love), however, given the names you've listed, I really like Theodore with Peter (the whole Greek thing and all). Besides, Theo is really nice. I do like Joel second best, though.
I've always liked it. I've never met a mean Joel.
Joel is my favorite of your list with Conrad in second place. I'm really sick of Nathaniel and Theodore and Richard have never done much for me. Joel is an artistic sounding name to me. Strong but sensitive; playful but thoughtful. I've never met a Joel in my area (another plus INMO). Joel and Peter make a good set.

I'm surprised at how differently people are interpreting Joel...everything from bully to sensitive guy. Very interesting!

Really nice, empathetic, caring guy. Best-friend material. That's the vibe I get.
Peter and Joel. That sounds nice to me. I think Peter and Nathaniel would be good too.
On a side note, I'm really liking Joel as a middle name lately - better than the ever-popular James.

I love Joel, but prefer Conrad. Ooh and Richard, I adore Richard. Love Theodore too.(Also Peter is my number one favorite boy name. I think Henry would be a perfect match for Peter.)
Actually we considered Henry at some point and it kind of fell off our radar. Maybe we need to start thinking about it again.
It gives off a nerdy cool vibe to me. :) I like it.
Sorry, but a bad one! It seems very bully-ish, annoying, rude, unintelligent, brutish, stuck-up jock type. It also feels dated to me. I don't think it fits at all with your son's name or any of the other names you're considering.

Wow, that's like the exact opposite of the impression I have of Joel! I think it's very mild, sweet, and handsome.
Joel doesn't sound jock or bullyish at all to me... Feels a lot softer than that.
Sounds like you have had a bad Joel experience!
Not really
I went to high school with 2 of them. One was an okay guy, the other I didn't really know very much. I just get that vibe from it. Like Chad or Brad.

Yeah, I totally get that vibe from Chad. Not as much from Brad because of good personal associations, and definitely not form Joel (see my other post).
Ok. If you associate it with Chad I can understand how you feel. Chad is bad.
Aww, I knew a lovely Chad in college. :)
It's my husband's name! :) I like it. I have always liked it. It is an old name but I don't think it was real popular until the 70's and 80's--though it did see some use prior to that. It is somewhat popular again today.
It gives off a very masculine vibe to me.

I might add--masculine with a soft side is the vibe I get from the name Joel. It is softer than Joe, while still being very masculine.
Oh, of your other names I also really like Nathaniel.
