[Opinions] Emmeline
Hey
I used to post on this board a few years ago, but haven't been on in a while. I was reading The Shifting Fog (aka The House at Riverton) and fell in love with the name Emmeline.
What do you think of it?
Is it too similar to Emily and Emma, especially given how popular they are?
Thanks!

I like it spelled Emmaline, which I think is the more usually used spelling, according to the data.
I really like Emmeline! I love it with the spelling Emeline, and the -leen pronunciation. But either way is nice!
I really love Emmeline and its strong-yet-feminine feel. I like to think of it as a better alternative to Emily or Emma, not just a similar name. It stands out quite a bit.

Yes, it's connection to Emily and Emma was more of a worrying afterthought - I initially didn't connect them at all. I do love it!
Don't be afraid of using Emmeline because of it's similarities to Emma/Emily. It's a beautiful name, and will definitely shine among its more popular variants.
Thanks, I hope so!
Meh. My brother-in-law laughed like a hyena when he heard this name, and said that it sounded like something you put in your gas tank, and I'm beginning to agree with him.
Emmeline is actually my favourite Em- name.
I prefer it pronounced EM-eh-LYE:N rather than EM-eh-LEEN, but I like both.
I don't think it's too close. It's kind of like finding an Estelle among all the Stellas or an Adeline among all the Addisons.

It's funny you should say that; I was pronouncing it that way until I looked it up and checked. I think I like both ways too.
I like it, a lot more than Emily and Emma. I think it is a great option if you like the sound of Emily and Emma, but want something a little less common. :)
Yes, I'm really upset Emma became so common! I love that name.
