The last four years have seen the Roberts family grow together as a family and settle comfortably into the size of the family. There was a considerable hole missing two years ago, however, when Ambrose left for college. His absence affected each of his brothers and sisters as well as his parents but to everyone’s relief, he settled into his new grown-up role smoothly. He immediately started excelling in his classes, made new friends, and met a slightly spacey young woman named Winter Morgan. According to Ambrose, he simply could not see past her. She lived in the same dorm as Ambrose their freshman year, she on the 2nd floor, he on the 1st. They met at a freshman mixer for the dorm and quickly became friends. While Winter was hesitant to commit to a boyfriend so soon after beginning college, Ambrose knew that he wanted no one else. They didn’t start dating until shortly after winter break of their freshman year. After spending up to two hours a day on the phone every day they were apart, Winter finally realized that her discontent over being separated from him was more than just a friendly feeling. They started dating immediately upon returning to campus. The young lovers have not looked back.
In the meantime, back at home, Sullivan seems to have a new girlfriend every few weeks. As a senior, he is a star running back on his high school’s football team and is being courted by several universities with the promise of a football scholarship. His parents are more than a little concerned by Sully’s dating habits, though. He has had four different girlfriends since he started his senior year alone! More than once Delia has been in the living room when a crying girl would come bursting from Sully’s room and run from the house (much though Delia didn’t even know he had a girl over). Most of the time when Sully has a girlfriend he does not bother to inform his parents; they just all of a sudden see a new young lady fawning over him.
Delia and Rowan are trying hard to discourage freshman Ranger from following in his brother’s footsteps when it comes to dating. Ranger is starting to establish himself as a talented little soccer player but still seems too shy to approach a girl. Little do his parents know that Ranger’s reluctance with girls is in large part due to the fact that he’s enamored with a sophomore who has a boyfriend.
Donovan is all set to start high school next year. He’s a little worried that he’ll be overshadowed by his three big brothers that have already made it through but he’s as unlike his brothers as can be imagined. Donovan likes to sink into music, wear skinny jeans, and is a embarrassed that he’ll be associated with his athlete brothers at his new school. Juno is still all girl. She loves having sleepovers with her friends where they giggle about boys, paint their nails, and eat unhealthy amounts of sweets. Ephraim, though only 9, is within two years of getting his high school diploma. His parents chose to pull him from the high school his brothers attend and enroll him in a local school with more specialized attention. His goals are varied but all lofty at this point: he hopes to be a doctor, an astronaut, and to save hungry children throughout the world.
