Help[Opinions] Jolie . . .
The post below about names and their namesakes got me thinking about a big GP of mine: Jolie. I'm not really a fan of her, but I think her name is great. Before I go on, let me re-iterate that this is all strictly GP!
So instead of Jolie, what about Joely - which could be an entirely separate name - ie. the fem form of Joe. It could even work as a nn for Josephine. Or how about Jolly (it's pron slightly different, I like that it means happy as well)? Or Jola? Do you think Joely, Jolly, Jola etc. are too close to Jolie, could they be used without people associating them with the actress?
I know most people would see Jolie and think tacky and too celeb influenced, would they think the same about Joely/ Jolly / Jola etc. ? Finally, if you had to choose one, which would you choose (I havent;' listed all the variants of Jolie / Joely etc, are there others I have missed?)

I don't think anyone would connect Joely, Jolly, Jola, etc. with Jolie. I guess unless they heard you yell out Joely, they might think you said Jolie. Except the emphasis is on opposite syllables.
Anyway, I've always kind of thought Joely was pretty upbeat and fun. The problem with Joely though is I think it's connected to actress Joely Richardson. But she's not as well known as Angelina Jolie.
Jola is kind of neat. I wouldn't use Jolly, though. It just brings up images of fat guys laughing. What about Joy? I really like that.

I much prefer Joely simply to avoid the obvious celebrity association. I too love the name though and would be super keen on Jolie if not for that association!

Didn't Julie Andrews have a Joely daughter?
I know a totally English-speaking Joliette from a totally English-speaking family; they pronounce it Jill-LEET. (Perhaps the fact that she was born on Bastille Day might have affected their judgment.)

Jolly = Santa Claus... I'm not sure why, but the word 'jolly' is completely associated with a fat little guy with a white beard saying "ho ho ho"...
Joely is alright. It's better than Jolie, but if I just heard it I would think it was Jolie. I kind of like Jola though.
Jolina could be another, but that takes the celeb thing to a whole new level... Angelie Jolina... yeah. Anyway, if I used one, I'd pick Jola.

First, I like the actress and think that her full name Angelina Jolie is great. Jolie on it's own is nice, but not something I'd use (just like I wouldn't use Happy or Vesela).
Jolly goes into the same word category to me.

I have a cousin named Joely - she's named after her late uncle, Joel. I always thought it was a pretty name, and I liked that they found a way to honor. It has nothing to do with Angelina Jolie, and I never heard anyone ask if it did.
Anyway, I like Jolie, too, but not Jolly or Jola. I don't think Jolly or Jola would be associated with Angelina, at least not often. Joely probably would be the most out of the variants. If I had to choose one, I'd probably pick Jolie.
