I would like to thank you profoundly for the letter you sent me. It is an unexpected honour you bestowed, and I assure you I am grateful for it.
Indeed, it has been a while since the Krianians have discovered the Spice Islands, and the race between Kriania and Ardelus have not ebbed in the least, as I am certain you have heard. Word has spread that the colony in Nadiz is also acting up. Now would hardly be an excellent time for couriers to rush back and forth between Kriana and Renzife, and I am quite touched by your insistence of continuing our correspondence.
As to how I and my family are doing, we have been doing better by the day. Lately, my wife Rosa has given birth to our second child, a daughter we named Lucrezia. We wish greatly to add her a second name (as is the Krianian custom) of Contessina, in honour of your grandfather Cosimo's wife, and of your own daughter. I seek your blessing to do so.
I am glad that everything is well in Renzife. I have caught word that you have sent a man on a voyage to the Spice Islands (his sister I happened to be acquainted with; Simonetta Calfucci), and I wish his voyage may bring only the best. It has also come to my attention about the numerous amounts of artists which have come to settle at Renzife, and my heart warms to think of them working on their masterpieces. I wish that only the best of blessings come upon Renzife, and especially to your and your house.
