[Opinions] Re: Why is dated bad?
Because I think most dated names are ugly. Thorsten has the same feel as names like Norbert, Eugene, Earl and Vernon have in the US.
It's pronounced TOSH-ten where I live, btw.

From an area where the accent dumps and adds rs in the prn. of various places in words that other En. speakers don't?

That's interesting. Where I come from, a kid with a name pronounced TOSH-ten would probably get a lot of compliments. It's weird how different perceptions can be across the world, isn't it?

I like Eugene, its a comback so that doesn't throw me off! Norbert, and Earl are dated I guess you could say but I still don't even consider them popular I will have to look into it more!

I don't think it has to be popular to be dated, it just has to be stereotypically an 'old person name' (and not in a good way)- names that are not ready for a comeback yet.
