[Opinions] Charmaine
What do you honestly think of that?

I used to think this was...Not sure how to put it. Chavvy? Cheap? A footballer's wife type of a name? I sort of like it now, though. I've taken to Romaine and Germaine as well. It's an attractive but not prissy ending for a name. I would still worry that "Char" is too 80's and not ready for a comeback.
Makes me think of Cousin Pam's friend from "The Cosby Show."
I don't care for it.

It reminds me of a couple things. I am 30 and I had 2 babbysitters named Charmaine and one friend named this in 3rd grade. So it just sounds like someone who is my age. Like a Stacey or Jessica would.
The other thing is that it always reminded me of Charmin bath tissue.
It's a nice name and I wouldn't hate to see it... but those are my personal associations.

It's kind of cheesy. I don't think it's that bad, though I like Charmian much better.
It's tacky and makes me think of toilet paper.
I don't like it. It reminds me of Charlemagne.
Very Southern, slightly white trash, and it reminds me me of the toilet paper Charmin.
It's no longer called "Charmin" :P
I think it still is in the US. I didn't read Iac's post before I made mine. I also thought of toilet paper independently, so it might be a common connotation.
Yeah, it's still Charmin in the US. That would be my first association, too.
Yeah, it's pretty common; I used to hear it all the time when Charmian was on my name list. Charmin's now Cushelle, or something like that.
I'm not fond of it at all. I like Charmian, but not Charmaine. Charmaine makes me think of an alcoholic sixty year old woman with a foul attitude.
Very Southern. I picture a Southern belle is nice & sweet to your face but talks behind your back. She is blond, tall & thin.
I kind of like it as a middle name to a simple or common first name, like Elizabeth Charmaine, Emily Charmaine or Ava Charmaine.

It makes me think of early 1990s TV sitcoms. Rosanna era. So, I don't like it.
In theory, I should like it. I like Charlotte and Caroline, which are similar, but something about this name is off-putting to me. It definitely sounds dated, similar to Germaine.
