[Opinions] Nicknames you love, but don't like the full names for.
What are they? Would you ever consider using them as a full first name?
For me, it's Benny [okay, that might have something to do with Benny Andersson, but still] and Davy. I love them, but I dislike Benjamin and Bennett, and David and Davin.
I don't know if I'd ever use them as a full first names, though.

For boys I like Sam, Alex, Ben and Will but am not crazy about Samuel, Alexander, Benjamin or William. I also like Geordie but not George or Jordan
For girls I LOVE Gwen but dislike the longer versions, or at least find them too frilly. I prefer Sylvie to Sylvia, Neely to Cornelia, Codie to Cordelia and Missy to Melissa too.

I don't as a rule like nicknames that much. Almost always, I'll like a long name first then like the nicknames for it (or not). I have some short names that I would use alone, and that I like a long version for too, but I can't decide if I like the short or long version more. Mostly, though, I think I tend towards the short version.
Stella / Estella
Vera / Verena
Mira / Mirabel
Greta / Margaret
I haven't found a long version of Vida or Leo that I like yet.

I like Charlie, but I'm not too keen on Charles. It has grown on me some lately though.
I also don't mind Matt, but I'm not a fan of Matthew. I can't say that I love the name Matt though.
I don't mind Robby either, but I don't care for the sound of Robert.
Others:
Jack but not John
Kit but not Christopher
Jake but not Jacob
Rick but not Richard
And for girls:
Annie but not Anna or Ann / Anne
Katie, Kate, and Kay but not Katherine
Maggie, Meg, Megan, and May but not Margaret
Edited to add girl names.

There are a few Spanish names for which I prefer the nicknames rather than the full names.
Rafa
Gonza
Sebas (I do like Sebastián anyway, but I like Sebas better)
Gabi
Enzo (I like Lorenzo quite a bit but... I don't know)
I've grown to like the full names just because I like the nicknames so much, but I still prefer the nicknames.
Bette for a girl but I don't like Elis/zabeth, Bernadette, Babette, Bethany or anything else that would seemingly work as a full name

What about Ginevra?
Polly is one that I've been agonizing over for weeks now. I love the vintage feel of Polly, but I can't bring myself to really love Mary. I've finally decided that Polly would make a fine nickname for Olympia, so, I'm happy.
I also quite like Nancy, but I can't work up enough love for Anne.
I'm sure that these have been suggested, but have you thought about Benedict or Davis for your Benny and Davy troubles? Also, I'm quite fond of Benny as a nickname for Benjamina...

Finn, but I wanted a long name for it, but couldn't find one I liked. If I had heard of Finnbjorn back then I'd maybe have used it.
Charlie. I'm not really into Charles at all. If I had used it for a son (didn't because our last name is B.), I would have bitten the bullet and used Charles as his full name. I don't have a problem with giving nicknames as full names, but I probably would not do it myself.
Same deal with Rick and Nick - I'd have used Richard or Nicholas, although I don't like those full names as much.
I like Edith okay, but if I couldn't call her Edie I probably wouldn't use it.
I don't care for Benny much myself, but if I did like it, I'd make the full name Benedict. The meaning of Benedict is cool, and you'd never have to call him anything but Benny. I think the pope is a bigger problem than the eggs =)

Ew, I also dislike Charles but LOVE Charlie.
Same, hate Charles, ADORE Charlie!
Sunny. Definitely, it just seems to flimsy to ever be a real name. I've considered Susannah and Sunniva, but as much as I like both I don't love either. Since it is a word I guess it could be used for anything, but I'd feel weird naming my daughter something like Cecilia and calling her Sunny.
I also love Gabe and Nate, but don't like Gabriel, Nathan or Nathaniel. But I feel like those two are ok on their own.
How do you feel about Benedict or Bentley. Reuben could actually work too. Personally I feel that Ben could stand on it's own, since most Benjamins end up just Ben anyway. That way he has something less childish to fall back on.
As for Davy, Davis maybe?

At least Sunny is a word, so it doesn't need to be a nn for anything.
One of my fave names as a teenager was Aracely. What about that?

What about Davis or Davison, nn Davy? Although I find just-Davy to be really hipster-hip. And Reuben nn Benny?

It is more there are nicknames I like better on their own.
Lily - don't like Lillian
Maggie - I like Marguerite but don't know that I would use it and Margaret is ok so dowdy.

Lucy-don't like Lucille or Lucinda and Lucia is pretty but I don't think I could pull off
Trudy-hate Gertrude
Charlie-Charles is just ehh

What about Benaiah?
Just wanted to say that. I can't think of any nicknames I like where I don't like a full name for it.
