[Opinions] Tyson or Finnegan (to be called Finn)
I prefer Tyson for our son. My husband prefers Finnegan (or Finn). I am annoyed that Finn is a character on Glee though and may become quite popular. I like names that are a bit more obscure. I also think it's a bit nerdy when not shortened to Finn. Any opinions?

I like Finnegan (Finn) better. I love Glee but I like Finn before that. I don't think Finnegan is nerdy at all. If anything, it veers toward trendy because of the popularity of Irish/Gaelic sounding names. Unfortunately with the popularity thing, it is a guessing game. I doubt people who started using Emma 15/20 years ago thought it become the #1 name.
Tyson makes me think of Mike Tyson and it could be shortened to Ty, which considering all the Tylers out there, I would think is more common than Finn.

Totally Finnegan. It's super handsome and not nerdy at all! Finn is super sweet, and not a worry about Glee at all. I think Tyson is way more common. And Ty is so boring and blends in with all the Tylers.

I personally love Finnegan, it is worlds more interesting (and less thuggish) than Tyson. If you're not sold on it, what about Fintan, Findlay, Finley, Finnan, Finnian, or Finnbarr?

I much prefer Finnegan! I don't find Finn to be nerdy at all. With Tyson, I just think of the boxer. Also, Tyson isn't that unheard of these days and when you factor in how many Tylers there are and how many of them go by Ty, then it really isn't that obscure. Two suggestions: Tadhg (pr. TIEG) and Tycho (which could be distinctive if he didn't go by Ty).

Sorry, but I dislike Tyson a lot. I don't like the sound at all, it seems trendy, and above all it's a brand of chicken (which is all I think when I hear it). I love Finnegan, it's adorable and handsome and smart. Finn is alright as a nn. For the record, Finn was becoming popular before Glee came out, although that could help speed up the process. But Finnegan isn't Finn, so I don't think it matters if his nickname got more popular.

I vote Finn. I met the cutest little kid once named Finn and that's always what I think of now. That and Finn MacCool. If Finn is too popular (grr Glee), he'll always have Finnegan (or another Finn-name?)Or you could call him Fionn. I think Tyson is a bit too "jock"ish and reminds me of Tyson chicken nuggets...

I personally prefer Finnegan and tbh I wouldn't worry about Finn getting super popular. I think it has a stronger sound to it and will age a lot better than Tyson.

I really Tyson but not Finnegan. I would love the nickname Ty for Tyson. I LOVE the name Finn though (actually considering it for one of my twins) but I am afraid you make a good point about it becoming popular because of glee...what a shame.
