Melinda is just kind of blah to me. It has lots of nickname potential but it just doesn't appeal to me.

The only Melinda I have ever known is doing 25 years as a guest of the state.

I've known two Melindas and neither went by Melinda. One was my stepmother, and she went by a completely unrelated nickname that was based upon her maiden surname. She emphatically did not want to be called Melinda. The other was a friend of mine who went by Mindy. I remember her stating once that she hated her full name, Melinda. I really can't understand the attitude of either one, as in my opinion Melinda is so much better than my stepmother's nickname and Mindy.

I prefer the slightly more unexpected Belinda, but I also love Melinda. It's so wholesome. I knew a really awesome Melinda too, who was so kind, yet also the coolest person ever. She was gorgeous and counter-culture. She shaved her head in high school so she could wear different wigs every day.

I really like Melinda (thought I was the only one!) I actually also like the nickname Mindy for it and prefer it to other nicknames. It's just so sweet.

I think I would love it, if it weren't for a negative association. My dad's cousin is Melinda and she lives three houses down from us and is constantly spying on us and poking her nose in our business. I'm 27, but I still live with my parents. To this day, she tells my parents what time I turn my light out at night and tells them that they're letting me stay up too late.

It's cute, but I prefer Melissa.
