[Opinions] Alma
What do you think of Alma? I think it sounds soft, sweet and kind. I've really been warming up to it lately. I also love that it means "soul" in Spanish and "nourishing" in Latin. However, on the other hand it is quite an old-fashioned sounding name. Do you think it's too old-fashioned sounding or would you love to meet a little girl named Alma? Do you have any combos you want to share? :) Here are some I've just come up with.Alma Coralie
Alma Gabrielle
Alma Celeste
Alma Eloise
Alma Penelope
Alma Briony
Alma Ceridwen
Alma Emmeline
Alma Juliet
Alma Miriam
Alma Rhiannon
Alma Seraphine
Alma Willow

It's by no means my favourite name but it would certainly fit in with naming trends today. It reminds me of the Crimean War victory of Alma, after which many streets were named in Australia and probably the UK.
I would like to see it on a little girl today, and as a lover of Maya Celeste and Emma Celeste I think Alma Celeste is just heavenly!
I like all your combos except Ceridwen and Seraphine, and would only add Alma Delphine, Alma Felicity and Alma Mireille
(It is also used in Israel, Hebrew for maiden)

I love Alma! Your description of it is exactly right. I tend to like old-fashioned names, so it's perfectly fine for me.

Thanks for the combos! I like Alma Philomena, Alma Cecily, Alma Persephone, Alma Dorothea and Alma Magdalena. I like pretty much all of them! Haha. Alma Cecily in particular seems so ethereal and fairy-like. It's beautiful, and I normally don't even like Cecily but it works so wonderfully in this combo.

I like:
Alma Coralie
Alma Gabrielle
Alma Briony
Alma Ceridwen
Alma Emmeline
Alma Rhiannon
Alma Seraphine (love this one!)Alma is rather popular for little girl's in Sweden. When I was little, I only knew it as the name of Emil's mother in Astrid Lindren's books, so for me it's still a kind of old-fashioned name. It's beautiful, though, very soft.

Yes, that's my impression of it too. Soft and delicate. :)

I love your description of Alma, as it's spot-on. It's old-fashioned, yes, but a lot of old-fashioned names have made comeback in recent years. I don't see why Alma couldn't be one of them. All your combos are excellent and flow beautifully. The only ones I'm not real fond of Are Alma Eloise and Alma Ceridwen, but that's only because I don't like the name you suggested for mns very much.

Thank you. :) I'm glad you don't think it's too old-fashioned. I don't think it's too old-fashioned, but I wanted to see if anyone had that opinion of Alma.

Alma was the name of one of my dolls, so I would love to hear it. :)I think I'd use the combo Alma Joanne, but I'm not sure if others would like it as much.

Aww. :)Alma Joanne is pretty.

It's too wordy for me. I just think "Alma Mater." But it does have a soft, sweet sound to it. Of your combos I think Alma Juliet and Alma Miriam are really nice.

Thank you. :) I don't really think of it as a word too much, even though I go to a university that will eventually become my alma mater. Alma mater itself means "nourishing mother" so the word thing doesn't deter me from the name it all for that reason.

Have you ever read "A History of Love" by Nicole Krauss? It's a tribute to everything "Alma"--not to mention a good read in and of itself.I like Eloise, Willow, Juliet, and especially Briony when combined with "Alma."

Oh, Alma. Makes me think of the desert, beautiful browns and bright reds and pinks. I would LOVE to meet a little girl named Alma. I'd probably cry, at least on the inside.I don't have any combos, but Alma Laurence comes to mind.Alma Celeste, Alma Penelope, Alma Briony, Alma Juliet and Alma Seraphine are all gorgeous. Alma Celeste in particular makes my heart melt.
