I think of coffee, the computer programming language, and the Indonesian island. It's a bit harsh sounding, and I think it's too heavily associated with coffee. I wouldn't use it for a person.

Java is slang for coffee here in Sweden, so that's what I think of.

I like it - and not just for a dog!
I like Java. Kinda has the same feel to it as Levi or Lars. One of my parents' friends went by Java. His real name was John - which I like too, but Java definitely suited him better!

On a human, no way. However I wouldn't mind using it on a dog (because we used to have a dog named Mocha).

I wouldn't name my kid Coffee.
Or C++ or Prolog. (Although Ada and Pascal are still usable.)
Or Borneo.Sorry, but I don't think Java should be anybody's name. Not even a character.
Although... it does work for pets. (One of my professors has two dogs, Cinnamon and Java.)

hmm. If you pronounce it JAY-va, i think it's adorable! But i would spell it differently maybe. But Java?! That is a computer program, coffee...and also makes me think of Jaba the Hut off star wars!! (which isn't good). DON"t use this on a person. Haha! prounounced jay-va though, i think that would definitely be a beautiful name.

If you're pronouncing it like coffee, I don't like it.But, if you're pronouncing it like JAY-vuh, then what about Jaiva? I know a little girl with this name.

...as in coffee?Sorry, but I really don't think it's a name at all. Maybe for a pet.

It's my dog's name! She's a black Shi Tzu. I named her that because of the way that I got her. I was working at a cafe, and I was friendly with a woman who worked in the attached bookstore. She had Shi Tzus whom she used to breed, and she didn't sell the puppies, but would only give them away to people that she knew. So she had Shi Tzu puppies and asked me if I wanted one. I thought that since I was getting the dog through my employment at a cafe, I would name her Mocha. For some reason I was thinking she'd be brown. But when I saw her and saw how black she was, I changed it to Java, a slang term for coffee! And I thought it was appropriate also because I love coffee, and come from a coffee-drinking family.I had to rehome the dog, hopefully temporarily, when I moved last summer. I miss Java. I think I'll try to visit her soon. Java! I miss you, baby!Anyway, I think that Java is a good name for a dog, but not a person.

I think it sounds very hipster. I just can't get past the whole coffee thing to think of it as a name.

Not really for me. It reminds me of spunky coffee houses like Java Hut and Java Script programs. Now, if you're going for the pronounciation of "JAY-vah," its still just luke warm for me. :)

I think it's a great dog name!

I like it too :P Sure I do think of the computer program, but it's not a big deal. Java is cool and doesn't sound made up to me.

I can't take it seriously at all for a human. Better than Mocha I suppose, but only just.

Sorry but I don't like it at all. It's a type of coffee, and a computer programme along with the island.
