I actually love Marley. I actually do associate it with Bob Marley, but I'm pretty fond of his music and I personally don't have strong opinions against his lifestyle. I can kind of see where distaste can come from though, and Marley and Me could add to that for someone.
I think it works on either gender, but is generally less likely to be viewed as "trynn'Deighh" on a boy.

I actually like all the other names too, although I prefer the spelling Maia to Mayah and I wouldn't nickname Oliver at all.

What's so bad with Marley being used on a girl, or a human for that matter? I don't think it's terrible at all.

I don't hate it. I can definitely see it being used on a girl. Why not? It fits in with the trend of Carly/Karly/
Kaylee/Jayla type names.

I worked with a woman who named her daughter Marley. I think it was a little bit influenced by Bob Marley, and that's what it made me think of more than anything.

To me, it has little appeal when spelled Marley - it seems surnamey and trendy and yes, doggy. But if it's Marlee, I can almost like it. Like Marlee Matlin, the actress.

I love Mayah, but spelled Maia. Georgie May is sweet, and I am fond of Oliver (although my husband detests it!) The others really aren't my style but at least they're spelled recognizably!

Just because there was a god-awful movie about a dog named Marley, that doesn't make it completely unusable for a human, IMHO. I also like it for a girl; I think it's cute.

I really do. It's got cool connections to chain-dragging ghosts and Jamaica. But I just can't warm to it - it's flakey and cardboard-flimsy. It's like Harley and Miley's horrific love child.

I like Marley as a nickname for Marlene or Marlena. It's not so good as a full name by itself though.

I love the name Marley! My first baby (miscarried) was Marlee Kay. Marlee was a short version of Marilyn, in honor of her grandmother.

I knew a girl who went by Marley as a nickname for Marlene. I rather liked it - it really did suit her. As a given name, I wouldn't have liked it on either gender, but it did work well as a nickname, I thought.
