Last year every royal sibling was married, and not all of them were popular matches. Though the people approved of the marriage of their Prince Joseph to the duchess Maria Elisabeth, the marriages of the two princesses were controversial at best. While some thought the story of Princess Magdalena marrying the love of her life quite romantic, other were disgruntled that their princess had been given to a Ventian nobleman rather than a prince, or at least a good Bialan noble like her brothers. The marriage of Princess Adelheid to the French Dauphin was universally unpopular. She was considered too young to be sent off to marry, especially to some "blasted Frenchie." Anti-French sentiment has been high in Bial for several years, and the marriage was seen as a step down and a very mean trick for King Walter and the dowager to play on poor little Adelheid. Even the populace were against it, as it was quite well known that the Dauphin was half-witted and had a twisted back (stories of him of course received from those who had never seen him). But in the year since the marriages things had calmed. All of the royals were expecting children, and the kingdom held its collective breath for the birth of an heir. No royal of the House of Kaarmann had failed to produce a healthy boy by at least the second pregnancy for three generations. But while Queen Hedwig's pregnancy was seen as the best thing for the kingdom, reports that Princess Adelheid was pregnant revived anti-French feelings. That dear Princess Adelheid should be married to His Ugliness (as the Dauphin was called in Bial) was one thing, but that she should be forced to share his bed and then be gotten with child by the deformed idiot was cause for outrage. While the impending arrival of both Princess Magdalena's and Prince Joseph's children were noted, they were ignored in the wake of these two much more important births.
How does your family feel about the Princess Adelheid situation? Does it affect them at all? Are they among those putting pressure on Queen Hedwig to produce a male heir, or are they indifferent as long as the Queen lives? What have their lives been like in these tense times? If you are a foreigner, how has your reception by the Bialan's been? For same-sex copuples, how did you acquire your child?

Lord William Henry Howard is an english Lord, who fled to Bial to avoid persecution, having displeased King George II. During his flight to Bial he spent some months in France and whilst there met Marie-Elisabeth much rumoured to be the illegitimate daughter of the French King. Though this has never been properly acknowledged by the king, Marie was raised alongside the Kings own children, after her mother died in childbirth.
Now married the couple are living in Bial, in moderate wealth thanks to the dowry Marie-Elisabeth had provided for her from a mysterious source (could the King of France seen that she was well provided for?)

At the tender age of just 16 Marie-Elisabeth presented her husband William with a daughter. Although upset that the child hadn't been a boy, William was consoled by the knowledge that Marie was still young enough to bear him many more children and among them there would undoubtably be sons and the child had been born healthy. And anyway how could he possibly be angry with Marie, she was so beautiful and charming with an innocence he couldn't describe. She enchanted him. Her skin was as white as snow and she had the prettiest rosebud lips, her eyes were the colour of glittering emeralds. She had passed on her pale skin and pretty rosebud lips to his daughter too, though the child had Blue eyes, but of course he knew most newborn babies had Blue eyes and they could change colour. William allowed Marie to name their newborn daughter and she named the little girl Louisa Charlotte Adelaide, after Louis the king of France, Prince Charles whom she had been raised with in the Royal Household (she had always been closest to Charles) and the new Dauphine Adelheid respectively.
Marie-Elisabeth felt very sympathetic towards the new Dauphine Adelheid, to have been forced into marriage must be a most terrible ordeal and to Louis.

You can choose his age, but he should be still very young, not older than ten.

Diederich did not receive the news of Princess Adelheid marrying the French Dauphin with much enthusiasm. After all, he hadn't spent the last three years at war with France just so that his country's princess could up and marry the enemy. But being the loyal civil servant that he was, Diederich swallowed his resentment and joined his countrymen in congratulating the royal family on the impending births of their children.
He also had reason to be excited, however, for his wife Johanna was expecting their first child as well. A mere two weeks after the king and queen celebrated the birth of a healthy son and heir to the throne of Bial, Diederich and Johanna welcomed a boy of their own, Josef Konstantin Wolfram. Now that Bial is at peace with France, it looks as though Diederich will be able to spend some much-deserved quality time with his growing family.

Background
Adelmar von Saxewald is the Count of Saxewald, a outer lying county of Bial. He was granted this county by the previous King, Wolfgang the Fierce, for his years of service in the defense of Bial.
Having come from a commoner family with a long history of military service, Adelmar was the first to ever be ennobled. Having focused on being a great warrior first and foremost, Adelmar for went marriage at the typical age of 22, seeing a family as a burden and distraction. However upon being granted his lands he knew he would have to marry to secure a stable succession to his county, as both his father's brothers Gerulf & Wandalin had died without sons, althought Gerulf left a daughter, Swanahilda.
Swanahilda is an amazing beauty, and upon her cousin's ennoblement was seen as a great prospect for marriage by many members of the lower nobility. Adelmar decided to take her as his own wife, to spare her from being used as a pawn in the intrigues of others trying gain his land holdings.
Swanahilda wasn't thrilled at the prospect of marrying Adelmar, as he was more than twice her age, and a heavily battle scarred veteran, but accepted her duty.

Adelmar & Swanahilda welcomed their first child, a girl named Rosmunda Godeliva, after her grandmothers. Rosmunda is a sweet little child, plump with rosy checks and the lightest covering of red hair.
The von Saxewald family is mixed about the current marriages of the royal family, especially of Princess Adelheid. Adelmar having spent more than 21 years of his life in the service of the King, fighting the French for the most of it, feels that the marriage is a slap in the face of both Wolfgang's memory and the efforts of the soliders who lay down their life.
Swanahilda, while only young and having lost her father and uncles in the battle with the French, thinks whatever can bring peace to the nation is a good thing, and besides at least Adelheid went about her duty of marrying for country, unlike her sister you married for the trivial reason of love.

One year into their stay at the royal court of Bial, Elma was caught suddenly ill while in Her Majesty's service. She was nauseous and was close to swooning, but adamantly refused to leave the gown she was working on - "The Queen needs it," she insisted over and over again. One of her fellow dressmakers got the idea of running around the corridors to find Severin, and at his insistence Elma finally relented and agreed to see the physician. To Severin and Elma's surprise, she was not ill, but pregnant! Out of a sudden everything felt chaotic. Severin had no idea how to dispense with a son, and was worried that his wife will overexert herself with her dressmaking, while Elma thought that he was being too fussy and nervous with being a father. The chief dressmaker found a temporary replacement for Elma, and she lived quietly with Severin for the last few weeks of her pregnancy.
In its full time, just before Queen Hedwig herself gave birth, a son was born to the Lehrers. The birth was a difficult one, and Severin was frightened and jittery that harm might chance upon his wife and son, but it all ended well. Elma requested that their boy be named after her father, to which Severin gladly agreed, but it took her some more persuasion before he agreed to let his son have the same middle name as himself. Soon, Elma and Severin tackled the many (mis)adventures of caring for an infant, but their love for their family grew. For them, the world beyond their little world did not exist - they didn't care about the so-called "His Ugliness", and all that Severin ever spoke of was his baby Theodor.

Isaak and Catherine were married last year. Catherine is from England. She came to Bial as a young child when her parents died, leaving her an only child and an orphan. When she was in her early teen years, Catherine began working for Isaak's family as a maid of sorts to Isaak's youngest sister, who is Catherine's exact age. Catherine became the best friend of Isaak's sister by the time they were both sixteen. By the time Catherine was seventeen, she and Isaak had developed feelings for each other. Each hid their feelings from the other, until Catherine was nineteen. It was then that the two of them began to court, and Isaak's parents actually approved! They were married when she was twenty.
Isaak has been studying music. He is currently a very influential musician around his town. His fame is growing. Many people say that he composes beautiful pieces and plays fantastically. Isaak plays many instruments.
Catherine herself is quite influential in and around the town they live in. She had grown up painting and creating. Many wonderful works of art completed solely by Catherine may be seen around the town. Also, many of her quilts and pieces of sewing may be seen in shop windows and in homes. The income of both Catherine and Isaak makes them quite wealthy.

Magdalena was greatly saddened and worried by the marriage of her sister. She was not against an alliance with the French--that she was in favor of--but she objected strongly to the use of a woman, especially their sister, as a political pawn. As she said to her brother, "Fluent French isn't a reason to marry!" She had married for love, and she wanted her sister to do so as well even though they were not close. But Adelheid was like her brother, and was determined to do her duty and went to France. Magdalena accompanied her, trying to lend moral support, and she was dismayed when they met the Dauphin. Though not deformed and half-witted like the rumors said, he was quite ugly and very strange. Magdalena tried to tell her sister she didn't have to go through with it, but Adelheid just replied, "Some put their duty to Bial before our own personal happiness." Magdalena was greatly saddened and worried by the marriage of her sister. Magdalena tried to tell her sister she didn't have to go through with it, but Adelheid just replied, "Some put their duty to Bial before our own personal happiness." ABOUT THEIR FAMILIES
The de Bourbon family, though French in name, are truly Bialan: Maurice's father was born in Bial before the anti-French feelings started to be aroused in people. The Kaufmann family have been living in Bial as far back in their family history to truly know where they originated from. They believe themselves to be true Bialans.
ABOUT THEIR PAST
Kora's father, Ludwig, and Claude's father, Maurice, were business partners. Though being Lord of a manor in Bial, Maurice was a hard working man. He teamed up with Ludwig, and they are the co-owners of the general store for their part of town. As Kora was his only child, and a daughter to boot, Ludwig saw nothing wrong with giving her hand in marriage to Maurice's son, even before Kora was old enough to understand such concepts. Thus, Claude and Kora were in an arranged marriage from the time Kora was born.
Claude and Kora, affectionately called Kay from the time she could respond to such names, never really liked each other growing up. Granted, it was mostly because they were always told they were going to be the future of the two families; neither had a say in the matter. Claude didn't want to own the general store; he wanted to travel the world and meet beautiful and exotic women. Kay just wanted to be a princess, like any young girl wanted to be. Neither, of course, got their wish.
Claude was able to get a break when he was able to go away to university, to learn business and the different things that came with it. Maurice wanted his son to have a proper education like he did. Kay was also glad to finally be able to do something without having to be near Claude. Now there was nothing wrong with Claude, and he was even mildly handsome. But from the time she was born she was rebellious and hated being told what to do. She didn't understand why she couldn't choose for herself if she wanted to marry Claude or not. Which was, of course, a not; he was her childhood playmate, not a man to marry. She wanted to marry a prince, and she couldn't help but dream of marrying [then] Prince Walter or Prince Joseph.

After going another couple of months without having much contact with her husband outside of breaking their fast and supper, Kay was just about fed up with it. So, one night, she lashed out at Claude, telling him that if he wasn't going to make her a true married woman, she would have someone else do it. The result was such and angry Claude she thought he would strike her. Instead, a feel weeks later, she realized her flux was late. A whole eight months after that single night of sharing Claude's bed, little Henry Walter de Bourbon was brought into this world. Henry is named after Claude's grandfather, Henri de Borubon, and Kay's late grandfather, Walter. Kay couldn't be happier with the birth, though it was extremely tiring. Claude seems amazed, and perplexed, that petite Kay was actually about to carry a child near to full term, but is very happy to have a son.

Joachim laughed just every time that "His Ugliness" was mentioned, since it was the birth of "His Ugliness" that led to Orlais breaking off. I only care that all live. The Orlais-Bial relations have been good which is a bonus. It's been quite good to be in Bial. Apparently, the tasks are a bit more difficult than I thought it would be as it's hard to be a spy while having an infant. It will probably take at least twice as long to get all the information that the nobility of Orlais wants from me.

Being a rather bitter and jealous man, Heinrich banned Eleonore from visiting the palace and thus secluded her from her sister and Walter, whom she was still ver much in love with. When Eleonore discovered that she was pregnant, she was very excited as her existance in the seclusion of her husbands estate had become a very lonely one. Eleonore has been trying very hard to be a better wife to Heinrich so he trusts her and lets her leave.
Heinrich was also very excited about Eleonore's pregnancy and was a very caring and devoted husband throughout, to the point where Eleonore even found she disliked him a little less, though she knows in her heart that she will never love him, just as she knows she will never stop loving her sisters husband. Heinrich was very disappointed when Eleonore delivered a daughter as he wanted an heir and has had little to do with Eleonore or baby Valeria since her birth.

Heinrich is a merchant with a small shop out of which he sells trinkets and other unimportant items. The shop is merely a hobby; his real source of income is card-playing and gambling, from which he makes a pretty penny. (It is suspected he cheats, but no one knows for sure.) He has several bars and card houses he rotates between, as well as several different characters he adopts while playing, so his winning streaks go unnoticed.
From gambling, he acquires everything from money to trinkets for his shop to furnishings. While traveling abroad one time, he beat a drunken Spaniard in a game of cards, winning the hand of the Spaniard's pretty young daughter, Rosita. His first wife died a number of years ago giving birth to their first son (who also died a couple of days later), and he found Rosita to be a more than suitable "replacement" for the wife he had lost. As a bonus, he then did not have to worry about finding and wooing a new wife, which was a lot of effort and the main reason he had yet to remarry.
Rosita cares not for her duplicitous husband, but she supposes that life with her father was not much better. She does, however, miss her friends from Spain, and hopes to soon have a child to ease her loneliness.
(I hope it's okay that Rosita is from Spain since her husband is Bialan and they fall under "the populace," but if not I'll change it!)

Rosita was thrilled when she fell pregnant, excited to finally have a friend in Bial - Heinrich mostly ignored her, only paying attention to her at dinnertime or between the covers. Which was probably for the best, she realized, but it didn't help her loneliness any.
When she gave birth to a healthy baby girl some time later, she was even more excited. Heinrich, who had not so subtly been hoping for a boy, took one look at his daughter, scoffed, and left. (He didn't return until the wee hours of the morning, reeking of alcohol.) Rosita named her new baby girl Klara, after the baker who lived a few streets down. It was a solid Bialan name, she supposed, and the baker, while not a friend, was always kind to her. She gave her the middle name Adelheid, after the princess she was hearing about all the time, the princess with whom she felt some kinship - both in loveless marriages with unattractive men much older than themselves.
Heinrich still pays very little attention to Rosita, and almost none at all to Klara, but Rosita doesn't mind much. She and Klara have each other.

Princess Adelheid's marriage and pregnancy wasn't well received by the Biancardis. In their opinion, Prince Louis shouldn't be considered even for a 30-year-old ugly woman, let alone a beautiful and educated girl.
As for King Walter's heir, they think people shouldn't be so concerned. Queen Hedwig is young, surely they will have many children - and boys.

After Adelheid and Louis were married, the Dauphin lost no time in informing his new wife that he found her unsuitable. He had been hoping to marry the beautiful Princess “Madeleine” and not her awkward, tone-deaf sister, but the Dauphin had been forced by the King to “fortify this alliance,” and so he had. After that, Adelheid lost no time in informing her new husband that she found him to be a vain fool that wore more powder and rouge than even the most ridiculous peacock. And, although she did not say this aloud, she thought he smelled as though he hadn’t bathed in years, even through the many perfumes he wore. To say their marriage bed was a satisfactory one would have been a grossly false statement.
Within the first month after her marriage, Adelheid discovered that she felt just as alone in the courts of France as she had at home, if not more so. At home, she’d had her siblings, parents, and the familiarity of the Bialan palace. In France, there was only her husband, her ladies-in-waiting (all of whom seemed to be named Catherine – Marie-Catherine, Louise-Catherine, two Anne-Catherines, etc. – and all of whom were French and seemed to view Adelheid as an intruder), the King (a proud man, who very rarely spoke to Adelheid), and Queen Catherine (who ruled the ladies’ court through fear and manipulation). When Adelheid petitioned the Queen for a Bialan lady-in-waiting – perhaps her cousin Nikolaus’ wife, Alexandra – Queen Catherine calmly wondered aloud at Adelheid’s attempt to offend her mother-in-law. The subject was obviously not open for conversation.
