Alexei/Aleksey would look weird on someone who isn't of Russian descent. People might assume that it's feminine because of similarities to the names Lexie and Alexis.

I don't think it would matter if he was of Russian descent or not. We are so globalized now. I know someone who's Indian and his name is Alexei.

He is of Russian Descent.
Or at least, his family immigrated from there.
And I can't think of anyone who would be unfamiliar with the name Alexei/Aleksey to think it was feminine.

I have a friend who is a female Alexi. Alexei/Aleksey looks masculine though.
