It has only been a year since the last prince's birth, and the birth of the first princess has been a cause for celebration among the people. After all, a king needs daughters as well as sons, to help forge alliance through marriage if nothing else. This year things have been quiet, a relief for the scandel-weary royal family and nobility, though somewhat boring for the gossip-hungry. The biggest piece of news of the past year has was an avalanche in the mountains that seperate Switzerland from Bial. It nearly destroyed an entire village and killed many, but people are only thanking God that it was not worse, as some truly devastating avalanches have happened in the past.
How does your couple feel about the scandel-free year? Are they happy or just bored? Did the avalanche affect them? How did they react to the king's response to the tragedy?

For the von Saxewald family it was a tragic year, as the avalanche that occurred was within the bounds of Adelmar's county and in fact nearly destroyed the village of Urgsbruck, a centre for winemaking, on which Adelmar collected a handsome tax revenue.
Now Adelmar would have a heavily reduced income, and to make matters worst due to the scandal caused at court last year due to Adelmar's philandering, King Walter ordered the much of the charity required to help the villagers would have to come from Adelmar's pocket.
During this time Swanahilda found herself with child again. While she had prayed continually for a boy child to please her husband, she suspected she was carrying yet another girl. All the signs pointed to it, but all she had was hope that the much wanted male heir would be born.
And it was that another female was born to them...Odila Swanahilda. Swanahilda was over the moon with the birth of Odila, as the child looked stronger like herself and reminded her of her half-sister Odila who unfortunately passed in the avalanche.
This birth just was a further disappointment for Adelmar was and he began to slip into a mood of darkness, was if a black cloud hung over him. Adelmar decided to go on a retreat to a hunting lodge in the East, hoping that killing wild beast and the possibility for some womanizing would lift his spirit.

He began to teach his oldest boy, Josef, how to ride a horse, and he was pleased to see that his younger son, Mattias, was flourishing under the watchful care of his mother. With no new threat brewing on Bial's borders, he and Johanna were able to spend a great deal more time together, and they shortly welcomed a daughter, Philippa.
Diederich's newfound charmed life was thrown for a loop, however, the night that Duchess Bergfalk showed up at the royal palace. Being one of the king's most trusted confidants, he quickly learned that the relationship between Walter and Eleonore had become intimate, with the duchess spending almost every night in the king's bedchamber. And this when Queen Hedwig had just announced that she was pregnant again! But who was Diederich to voice his objections? He knew that relationships within the royal circle were often fraught with extramarital affairs, and it was not his place to condemn his sovereign. For his silence, Walter promoted him to the rank of Major -- not that Diederich would have revealed the secret anyway, for despite his position and wealth, he was still no more than a commoner. He and his family had no noble titles upon which to depend, should the von Falkenraths fall from the king's favor.
Diederich scarcely had time to mull over these events when an avalanche struck in the mountains between Bial and Switzerland. A small farming village was nearly destroyed, and at least 98 people were killed in the catastrophe. Diederich's infantry company was ordered to spearhead rescue efforts. As he kissed his wife and children goodbye and departed for the frozen borderlands, Diederich wryly mused, So much for a quiet year.

Adelheid was well into her third pregnancy (how she prayed for a boy, so she might be left alone by her odious husband) when a letter from her sister arrived. The letter brought news of an avalanche – a minor one by Bial’s usual standards, but still devastating – and the news of their eldest brother and a certain Lady B. When Walter arrived a few weeks later, Adelheid was rather surprised.
“Have I grown so missed?” she joked when her brother joined her on one of her regular walks (Adelheid was once more restricted in her outdoor activities). They were without any of Adelheid’s usual company, so she felt free to speak candidly. “With Magdalena’s visit, and now yours, I feel I should be expecting Joseph and Mother anyday, now!”
When Walter didn’t respond, Adelheid decided to bring up Lady Bergfalk and little Friedrich. This got a response, but not the one Adelheid was expecting: Walter apologized! He told Adelheid how sorry he was for sending her away when she’d only been a child.
Adelheid interrupted him almost immediately. “I was not without a choice in the matter, Walter. I could have chosen to ask you and Mother to arrange a different marriage for me. Whilst I have no illusions that I am as close to you or Mother as our sister is, I know you would have felt it your brotherly duty to allow me to marry the man I wanted, if I had asked. I did not ask, and in not asking, I did the best thing for Bial. Am I happy in all things? No, but I have a beautiful daughter and a son who – God help him – will probably end up looking like his father, and they love me. Hopefully, this baby will be a boy – a more handsome boy – and someday, I will be Queen of France. I am…content.”

King Walter and Queen Hedy welcomed Princess Hannelore to the Kaarmann family. Prince Maxi does not care for the tiny little princess as she spends the most time with his mother. August is intrigued with the little girl, and likes to make her laugh. However August is most in love with his father. The little shadow still can be seen following his father around the palace.

After finally establishing some sort of regular relationship with Claude, Kay was finally settling into married life and her motherly role. She found that she truly loved being a mother and having her little toddlers underfoot while she did her work. She didn't find herself upset with them when they got in her way, but instead found herself happier. When she found out she was expecting her and Claude's third child, she was absolutely ecstatic. While barefoot and pregnant, Kay found herself bored. There was nothing going on in court worth mentioning, which was upsetting because Kay loved the scandal and fun that went on in court. Of course, it wasn't boring for long, as everyone heard news of the avalanche the nearly destroyed a whole town. Kay felt for those people, and thanked God that their family home wasn't closer to the mountain. When it was time for Kay to give birth, Kay wasn't ready for it. Her body was still weak from Alexander's birth, not long before the birth of this new baby. It was once again a hard labor, but the end result was her giving birth to a beautiful baby girl. They named her Anne, a beautiful and classic name, and gave her the middle name Mariele, after Kay's mother.

It was well known that Heinrich was a jealous, bitter, tempermental man, and appartently having two daughters and no son was enough to really make him angry. Heinrich began to drink heavily and everynight would arrive at Eleonore's bedchamber, drunk and abusive. Eleonore had run out of tears to cry, but had begun to wonder if she really was the worthless tramp that Heinrich called her... Perhaps not giving her a son was the gods way of punishing her for deeply loving a man who was not her husband... It all came to a head one night when Amelie was a few months old. As was usual, Heinrich had been drinking at the tavern and returned home very drunk and came to her chambers and tried to force himself on her. Up until then, Eleonore had been able to avoid his attentions, claiming to still be healing from Amelie's birth, but that was not going to happen tonight. Heinrich was slurring all sorts of derogatory, horrible things as she tried desperately to fight him off, but he just continued to mumble something about 'Bergfalk heirs'... She was spared however as before he could truly force himself on her, the alcohol in his system won out and Heinrich lapsed into unconsciousness. Terrified, Eleonore knew she had to get out and quickly packed her, Valeria & Amelie's belongings before waking the coachman and instructing him to take them to the palace. She looked over her shoulder constantly the whole trip there, just waiting for Heinrich to catch up to them on horseback, demanding she return home... Eleonore knew thought that if she could reach the safety of the palace, she would be safe as Walter would never let Heinrich hurt her.
Eleonore finally made it to the palace and breathed out a sigh of relief that they'd made it.

Prince Joseph and Maria Elisabeth welcomed another daughter to their little family this year. Princess Aloisia is a lovely baby, quiet and serene. She cries very little, which has lead her older brother Arthur to be rather more fond of her than her more energetic and fussy sister. Both Arthur and Elisabeth have been growing well, and Arthur has begun reading lessons with the same tutors as Crown Prince August. The two little boys seems to get along fairly well.
Joseph and Maria Elisabeth were very glad to have a nice quiet year. The lack of gossip and scandal at Court allowed Joseph to aid the avalanche victims quietly.

Elma had gave birth the exact same day as Princess Magdalena, and most of the physicians were concentrated on the royal child. At the end, she had to give birth with the help of some of her fellow maids and her Severin. When the girl was finally born, Elma asked Severin that she be named after a saint, to follow her siblings' naming pattern (one which had, so far, been entirely coincidental). Severin was too relieved his wife was well to object, and thus the girl was named Jutte Christiane, after the Biblical Judith and after one of the handmaids, Elma's friend Christiane.
However, whispers of scandals erupt fast in the servants' quarters, and news reached Elma that King Walter and Duchess Elenore were having an affair! As much as Elma won't believe it, Severin had to admit that it was possible. He had seen, during his hours reading and contemplating, the King and the Duchess conversing. It was always that - conversations, laughter, and nothing more - but Severin knew that the deepest of lovers can seem to behave as anyone else.

The whole family is delighted by the birth of the little boy and Marie-Elisabeth is relieved she has finally fulfilled her role of giving her husband a son to carry on the family name. This year has been strangely gossip free for Bial with the exception of a large avalanche thankfully the Howards were unaffected by this and although sympathetic to those who have lost family members and their homes they continue to live in peaceful bliss.
