[Opinions] Fey...
Lately, Fay has been growing on me, but because of its ethereal, folklore-y feel, I rather like the spelling Fey.So, what do you think of Fay / Fey? Also, which spelling do you prefer and why?
Thanks!

To me, naming a child Fey is like naming her Fairy, even though Fay also means "fairy". I just feel that Fey is more blatantly obvious.I do like Fay, though. It's rather charming and sweet, very cute.

Yay, someone else is on the Fey bandwagon!! I prefer Fey because of the meaning and because it looks more ethereal. Anyone can be named Fay, but a Fey would be ethereal and, well, fey. And not in the slang sense of the term (the only bad thing about this spelling).

Like the others said, "fey" is a slang term for effeminately gay, and that's what I immediately thought of. I prefer Fay by a landslide.I'm not a big fan of it. It sounds like the name of a middle-aged hairstylist who wears too much makeup to me. I know that's a weird description :p

I have to say I prefer Fey to Fay. I like it better because of the qualities you already listed.

I prefer the spelling Faye or even Fay. I love the name but when it's spelled like Fey I pronounce it like "key" but with an F

Actually, the reason I never cared for Fay / Faye is how close it is the the French word for fairy, "fe'e." (That's supposed to be an accent going up over the first e.) I love other names that give me an ethereal, folklore-y feel, like Gwyneth, Effie, Jonquil, Fleur, Esme, Aoife or Freja. But they have a more subtle feeling, not as obvious (in my mind) as Fay / fe'e. The Fey spelling makes me think of Tina Fey, who I love as an entertainer. But I wouldn't want a name which reminded of a single person like that.Sorry I couldn't be more positive. :-/

Fay.Fey is a gay slang term for "effeminate", so I wouldn't use that.

I'm not familiar with that meaning for Fey, but I am with these:http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/feyNone of them are very flattering ... I'd also stick with Fay. Or possibly Fae.

yeah, "effeminate" is exactly what I thought of too. I know a lot of people (30s and older) who have Faye/Fay as a middle name, so it sounds kind of "throw-away" to me (like Lynn, Lee, Sue, Jean, Jo etc.). I like short names, but Fay sounds like it should be short for something, even though it isn't.

Fay could be short for Faith, but I've never heard it used like that. It's the first syllable of the name, and Fe is Spanish for Faith.
I know a couple of female Fay's, and one male Faye (my dad's poor cousin).
