The kingdom of Bial has suffered a great loss. Elizabeth, Dowager Queen of Bial, has died. The mother of a king, a queen, and two respected and talented diplomats, the grandmother of nearly twenty grandchildren, and the widow of a powerful and respected king, the Dowager was given a funeral with all the pomp and grief such a royal presence deserved. She was laid beside her late husband in the royal vault, as per her request. All of her children and grandchildren attended the funeral, along with most of the nobility and several foreign diplomats from France and her native country of England.
Even amidst the sadness, life went on. More children were born to the royal family within a year after her death, and the kingdom witnessed the same quiet peace it has always faced. The only stir was caused when the child of that Lady Mary who had been returned to England in disgrace was brought to Bial. Lady Mary had died some years earlier, leaving the little girl, whose name is Charlotte, to be raised by her grandparents, but their death had left her with nowhere to go in England. So she was sent to live with her father's family in Bial, the parents of that half-witted stable boy. However, it is said that the little girl has been provided for by some of the higher nobility, no one can imagine why. After the little sensation this cause, nothing else has happened in the year after the Dowager's death worthy of note.

Lady Elizabeth was born early in the morning on the day of the late Dowager Queen's funeral and as a result Lord and Lady Howard were unable to attend the funeral, as a mark of respect the baby Elisabeth was named for the late queen dowager as well as for her mother. The family are all delighted to have a baby sister though little Lord William says a boy would have been preferable as he has only 1 brother and now 4 sisters, he does however dote on his 2 younger sisters.
Louisa is 9 now and is growing into a very beautiful little lady. She is still very bright and excels in all her classes. She continues to love riding on her horse and is a very able horsewoman.
Caroline is 7 now and continues to excel in her language ability, as well as in her classes. She is also a very talented pianist as loves to play to us all. She has always been a very shy little girl but she seems to be coming out of her shell as she grows older.

It was late when a messenger arrived at the Palace. Everyone had just gone to bed after another one of the King’s extravagant (and frequent) parties. In fact, the King had just passed out in her bed, when a knock sounded on Adelheid’s door.
“Your Majesty,” the voice called, and Adelheid took a moment to savor that beloved title. Was it wrong of her to rejoice in the day when Lady Anne-Catherine Bonfils, the Orlaisian spy married to Prince Charles, had orchestrated the assassinations of both the former King Louis and Queen Catherine? – Probably. But when the King and Queen were poisoned, three events occurred that would make Adelheid happy for many months: 1.) Adelheid became Queen Adélaïde of France; 2.) she was rid of three unpleasant persons – the King, the Queen, and Lady Anne-Catherine Bonfils, who was instantly arrested and put to death only a few months later; and 3.) Prince Charles became single.
So, after another evening of too-drunk courtiers and too-little intelligent conversation, Adelheid took her delight in the simple pleasure of her new title. However, as it was revealed that there was a messenger with urgent news from Bial, Adelheid instantly began to ready herself.

The last 2 years have been amongst the most pleasurable that Eleonore has ever experienced. No one has forgiven Heinrich for his forceful behaviour on Hedwig a few years back, and consequently he has been away on diplomatic business more often than he has been home. Johan's birth did bring Heinrich much joy however and when he is home, he truly does dote on the boy, much as he once did with Fritzi before he realised the truth. Heinrich spoils Johan however, and trusts the other children with nothing but disdain. Originally, this treatment was hard on the older children but over time they have learnt not to have expectations when it comes to Heinrich, and they do not really mind all that much. This suits Eleonore just fine as she knows that when Heinrich is gone, her children have a much better male influence in Walter.
Val and Ami are growing to be fine young women and Eleonore has no concern for their futures as she is sure that they will make fine wives when their time comes. Eleonore hopes that they both find men they can be fond of if nothing else as she refuses to allow them to enter into the same kind of marriage as she herself has been stuck in. It is Fritzi whom Eleonore worries for however. His paternage has never been publically declared, but Heinrich knows the truth. Upon Johan's birth, Heinrich decreed that, when the time comes, the Duchy of Bergfalk will pass over Fritzi and go directly to Johan, the only true Bergfalk heir. This leaves poor Fritzi with nothing, and Eleonore wonders where that will leave the little prince, who is not a prince. She has often thought of asking Walter to bestow something to his son, but has yet to establish a way that that could be done without raising eyebrows amongst the nobility - after all, surely they would then have to ask why the King bestowed such an honour on Fritzi, and not any of their sons...

The death of the king's mother was a terrible blow to Bial. Though she was born and raised in England, the Bialans loved and respected her and had come to accept her as one of their own. The nation turned out in droves for her funeral, which was full of the pomp and vitality with which the Dowager Queen had lived her life. As Elizabeth was brought to the royal vault for burial, Diederich led his troops in a ceremonial salute to the deceased matriarch, an honor usually reserved only for the kings of Bial.
But as sad as it was to see the passing of a most beloved Dowager Queen, life had to go on. By this time, Diederich was fully healed from his wounds, but he put in a request to continue training recruits at the local military base. This request was, of course, approved; Diederich's years of loyal service had earned him a few favors. Being closer to home meant that he had more time to spend with his family, though not with Josef. When he had turned 8, the boy had been sent to Okala, Bial's most elite military training academy where the Bialan boys who showed the most promise were taught to be soldiers. Josef could hardly wait to go, he was so eager to follow in his father's footsteps. His younger brother Mattias missed him terribly, however, so to cheer him up Diederich began bringing his son with him to the royal court, where the boy could study the intricacies of political life in Bial.
His eldest daughter, Philippa, was quickly becoming a young lady. Though just six years old, she had the poise and demeanor to rival even the most sophisticated ladies at court. Being a commoner, Diederich knew that Philippa must one day marry well, but he did not wish for her to become a trophy wife. So he secured the services of a governess for her, so that she would have the intelligence to match her beauty.

The product of Adelmar's affair with Mary James, a now 7 year old girl named Charlotte has arrived back in Bial following the death of her mother and her maternal grandparents, while for Swanahilda, the poet Glauco has returned to Bial after being commissioned to write a poem for the state funeral of the Dowager Elizabeth.
Charlotte's return to Bial meant that Adelmar would find it hard to hide his paternity as Charlotte born a striking resemblance to himself and his eldest daughter Rosmunda. In fact when Swanahilda was out sourcing new servents for the castle she swore she saw her own child working a loom in a village where the unfortunate stable boy had lived.
Adelmar upon hearing of his wife's spotting, before dismissing her as being delusional headed out for the village. He met with his bastard daughter's "grandparents" and asked them if he could provide for the orphan girl as he felt a sorrow for a her. They agreed and Adelmar set the family up in a nice farming house not far from his castle and provided them with new equipment to run their tailoring business.

There was a flood of Orlaisian dignataries at the funeral, and I was able to deliver infomation to them. Starting to teach the older two how to gather information and the like. The royalty would not expect small children to be gathering information on the castle's dimensions and the like.
