[Opinions] Evelyn for a boy
Not condoning its use in today's society, this is just hypothetical. I was thinking about it awhile ago, and it was appealing to me. Does it appeal to anyone else? For a boy it still keeps that pastel purple color for me, which gives it this cool quirky Victorian vibe.
I found it pretty hard to pair. I wasn't sure if I liked it better with butt-kicking names or suave, gentlemanly names.
Evelyn Alphonsus
Evelyn Balthazar
Evelyn Barthélémy
Evelyn Dieter
Evelyn Felix
Evelyn Ignatius
Evelyn Richard
Evelyn Stuart
Evelyn William
But I'm not really jumping up and down about any of those.
Do you like any of them or have any other ideas?

Actually, I just fell heels over head in love with Evelyn Barthélémy.
I like the idea of a boy Evelyn. It's has the same flair for me as the character of Mr. Darcy- a dark, sexy air about it.
I'd REALLY like to use it in a story I have, but I haven't found the right character yet. I already have a boy Vyvyan so Evelyn is pushing it, but it's oh-so-shiny.

100% girl.
I can't picture it on a boy at all.

Evelyn for a boy makes me think of the Cole Porter musical Anything Goes.
There is a male character named Evelyn (pronounced like EE-ve-lin) who is a very comic character. He isn't dislikeable and is even the character that the song I Get a Kick (Out of You) is sung about, if I remember correctly.

I can't see beyond Arthur, Alec and Auberon.
That said, I don't even enjoy Evelyn for a girl; it seems stodgy.

Evelyn Balthazar is fantastic, and I quite like it with most of the others, too. It is much cooler and quirkier as a male name, somehow, but I vaguely remember reading that even back when Evelyn Waugh was first published, the Times called him 'Miss Waugh', and now it seems to be entirely female. Although I did find one recent birth record here for an Evelyn Miguel! - so maybe not quite.
Evelyn Arthur - Evelyn Waugh in reverse
Evelyn George
Evelyn Oswald
Evelyn Edgar
Evelyn Bertram
Evelyn Montgomery
Evelyn Stanley
Evelyn Winston
eta: Evelyn Francis. Totally GP but I like it anyway.

I want to like Evelyn Francis, but I can't because Evelyn and FrancesFrancis are the names we'd use to honor each of my grandmothers... so it's like my grandmother's named combined and I can't make it feel masculine!
I checked, and in 2009 there were less than 5 boys born named Evelyn in the US because it's not listed.

Well, yes, I certainly can't see it used on a boy IRL. I used to even not be able to hypothetically think of it as masculine, but one day it suddenly got stuck in my head as potentially masculine. I get where you're coming from, though.
I like Evelyn on a boy (and a girl). But maybe I'm just weird since I like Meredith and Mackenzie's for boys but not for girls ;)
I like Evelyn William the best, but I don't really love any of them. I think Evelyn needs a somewhat strong and masculine name, maybe a long one.
Evelyn Vincent
Evelyn Theodore
Evelyn Wolfgang
Evelyn Daniel
Evelyn Alexander
Evelyn Simon
Evelyn Peter

I really like the idea of it, if you know what I'm saying, even though I'm not overly fond of the sounds. A boy Evelyn would be quite a nifty character.
Evelyn Balthazar is super.
